While in high school at the age of 16 Peggy’s mother passed away. As a result, she moved in with her paternal grandmother whom she loved dearly and referred to as “Nana”.
Peggy graduated from West Philadelphia High School with the class of 1956.
Following high school Peggy was employed by the Frank family as a mother’s helper. Peggy was beloved by Seymour and Gloria Frank and their two children Amy and Richard. The Franks became extended family.
Peggy gave up her employment with the Frank family when she met and fell in love with Richard Elwood Norris. They were wed on September 23, 1963. Richard and Peggy moved to South Jersey where they had two beautiful daughters Christina and Tanya. The family opened a children's boutique (storefront) on Haddon Avenue, which Peggy managed until she took a position at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden. She was a unit secretary on the medical floor for over 20 years until she left her position there to support her two daughters as they married and started their families. Her love for her daughters and desire to be present and provide support afforded her the opportunity to live both overseas and in different parts of the United States as both of her daughters were part of military families.
She first moved to Germany with her eldest daughter Christina as she began to start a family with her husband. Her time with Christina and her family was also spent in Michigan, Virginia and North Carolina. As her youngest daughter Tanya started her family, Peggy would travel to North Carolina and to Virginia for birthdays, holidays and lived with Tanya and the kids while her husband deployed. She eventually settled back in Collingswood, NJ.
She enjoyed her retired lifestyle and participated in the activities of local retirement centers everywhere she lived. In addition to her local activities, Peggy was well traveled. She enjoyed vacations in the Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and Nova Scotia.
Faith was extremely important to Peggy. As a young adult, she was baptized Catholic at St. Francis de Sales in Philadelphia, PA in honor of her mother who passed away before she could join the Catholic Church. Peggy attended a few different churches including St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church in Camden, Transfiguration Catholic Church in Collingswood, NJ, Mount Carmel C.O.G.I.C in Berlin NJ and finally Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Oaklyn, NJ.
Peggy Maxine Cornish Norris passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 20, 2022. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Richard E. Norris, her parents, Earl and Olive, her brother Ronald and her grandson Christopher.
