Claude Rodgers, Jr. attended John Bartram High School in Philadelphia and graduated Class of 1966. After high school Claude worked as a U.S. Merchant Mariner from 1993 till 2008. He would always talk about the ships, Marines he worked next too and all of the countries he traveled to. One photo he held onto for many years was of a ship he drove, the SS Jeremiah O’Brien National Liberty Ship. He traveled through Singapore, British Indian Territory, Madrid, and Gran Canaria all while employed by the National Maritime Union, and he loved every Sea Voyage.
When we could not find Claude, we always knew not to check at all, that he did not want to be found. Knowing he was somewhere by the water enjoying his Me Time, back on land. He enjoyed the docks and reminiscing about his voyages; he loved maps and war history. He loved to collect coins and little trinkets on every journey.
After he retired, he lived with his life partner, Alice Rogers, and cared for her up until her passing in 2018. After, Claude spent his final days speaking and enjoying what time he had with his loved ones.
Claude Rodgers, Jr. is survived in death by his nephew Justin Rodgers, Justin’s son Sebastian, sister-in-law Jacqueline Rodgers, and stepdaughter Karina Seixas, all who miss him very much.
