Scott Allan Linder

He was born on December 24, 1962, in Memphis, Tennessee. A lifelong Memphian, Scott grew up as an active member of First Baptist Church and attended Briarcrest Christian School. He was a faithful and long-suffering fan of Memphis athletics, supporting his Tigers through thick and (mostly) thin since his time as a student.

After college, Scott began a career in sales that spanned several decades and industries. Ever the conversationalist, Scott never met a stranger — but even when he did, he could make a stranger feel like an old friend. He was a superb listener (and enthusiastic talker, according to those who knew him best!), who carried an air of genuine warmth and welcome that followed him everywhere he went.

Scott's greatest earthly joys were his three girls: his precious wife and dearest friend, Amy, of nearly thirty-five years; his oldest daughter, Casey, who exemplifies her father's ultra-capable and enterprising spirit; and his youngest daughter, Abby, who embodies her dad's sparkling wit and trademark sense of humor. Over the years, Scott faithfully volunteered to serve as a coach for many of Casey and Abby's sports teams; by the time all was said and done, the man knew more about girls soccer than he likely ever dreamed (or desired) he would. Three and a half years ago, Scott gained the title of "Scooter" to granddaughter Annie Kate and his namesake 11-month old Scotty. His favorite job as Scooter was to build tall block towers that would inevitably be knocked down, to only be rebuilt again.

Scott was a builder in every sense of the word. A lover of carpentry, he spent many a weekend in his garage-turned-woodworking shop designing pieces of furniture for his girls, constructing artisan-quality gifts for his loved ones, and, of course, cranking out his world-famous (or at least Memphis-famous) cornhole boards. Scott also loved to build up people, and he strove to do so regardless of their past, their perceived potential, or their ability to return the favor. He was a true second dad to his sons-in-law Ashton and Noah, who are grateful beyond measure to Scott for the central role that he played in building them into the husbands and fathers they are today.

Above all, Scott was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. A member of Germantown Baptist Church for the last few years of his life, Scott resolved to spend the final stretch of his life "race" telling any and everybody about the eternal hope and forgiveness that he had found in his Lord and Savior. Scott's faith was marked by an endearing simplicity and a compelling sincerity, and there was no finer example of one who lived each day in accordance with Jesus's Greatest Commandment and Great Commission: namely, to love God and neighbor, and to tell the world about Jesus, who alone offers us the gift of everlasting life. While Scott's family grieves their temporary loss, they rejoice over Scott's eternal gain. And they know that if Scott were still with us today, his parting question for you, dear reader, would be: Do you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior?

Scott is survived by his wife, Amy Walters Linder, daughters, Casey Collins (Ashton) and Abby Martin (Noah), Grandchildren Annie Kate Collins (Casey & Ashton), Scotty Martin (Abby & Noah) his mother Elizabeth Linder, his father Richard Noel Linder, Sr., brother Richard Noel Linder, Jr. (Judy), . He also is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many loved cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother Wesley Haze Linder.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 9, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Collierville Funeral Home, 534 West Poplar, Collierville, TN 38017. A memorial service will be held, Friday, February 10, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Germantown Baptist Church, 9450 Poplar Avenue, Germantown, TN 38139.
