Kenneth Stegall, son of the late Ben Stegall and Elizabeth Hancock Stegall was born in Gideon, MO on September 12, 1928 and passed from this life on June 18, 2014 at his home in Red Banks, MS at the age of 85 after suffering from multiple strokes and declining health from a nearly fatal fall in August of 2011.
Kenneth, “Blackie” to those who knew him from his childhood for his full head of coal black hair, is survived by Betty Stegall, his bride of 59 years, their two sons – Kenneth Stegall of Oak Ridge, TN; Dennis Stegall of Slidell, LA; and their daughter, Darleta Darnell of St. Charles, MO. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Monique, Justin, Candace, Travis, and Kenneth, four great grand-children: Cameron, Gabriel, Nolan and Olivia; a sister, Alice Berry of Malden, MO and a brother, Gene Stegall of Dexter, MO. Kenneth was preceded in death by three brothers: Don, Kendred (his twin) and Billy and one sister, Flossie.
Kenneth served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He spent most of his life working as a carpenter, building numerous homes, large and small, several churches and even his local bank. After retiring from carpentry, he became interested in bee keeping and eventually had over 300 hives that produced honey sold in local markets.
The combination of his love for sports and his generous heart led him to coach his sons’ Little League teams for several years and provided the opportunity for many underprivileged children to play by picking them up for every practice and game.
He taught his sons how to hunt and fish and then repeated that process with his grandsons. He was a great story teller and loved sharing the escapades of his youth with his grandkids, who would hang on every word.
Kenneth was an active member of First Assembly of God of Malden, serving as a deacon and heading up multiple building projects. After moving to this area he attended the First Assembly of God church of Collierville.
Kenneth was a loyal and faithful husband, father and friend and will be greatly missed by all.
