John M. "Jack" Slayton

John Marion “Jack” Slayton, Jr., age 85, of Memphis, passed from this life on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis. He was born on November 8, 1924 in Plainview, Arkansas, of the late John Marion Slayton and Nanny Mae Welch Slayton. Jack was Regional Sales Manager for the Hoffman Electronics Corporation for 20 years. He was a World War II United States Army veteran serving in the South Pacific. Jack was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Slayton Long and her husband Pat, two brothers, Howard and Herbert Slayton and 3 sisters, Viola Ivey, Edith Beasley and Beatrice Funk. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Regina Rose Zakrzeski Slayton of Memphis, son John Marion Slayton III of Memphis and son Richard Harlan Slayton and wife Susan of Collierville, TN, five grandchildren, Shannon Haynes and husband Loren, Carrie Long, Jennifer Slayton, Chad Long and Melissa Slayton and 3 great- grandchildren, Camille Long, Maddie Dickson and Ella Cate Haynes. Visitation will be held at the Collierville Funeral Home, 534 W. Poplar Avenue, Collierville, TN, Friday, June 11, 2010, beginning at 1 p.m., followed by the service at 2 p.m., with Father Ernie DeBlasio of Church of the Resurrection officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital .
