He was veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in the Army Security Agency branch of Military Intelligence. He served in Okinawa during the Vietnam War. After his service, he attended Southern Illinois University, where he graduated with a business degree. He had a wonderful career, and recently retired from Bryce Corporation, in Memphis, Tennessee, where he served as Director of Human Resources.
John is survived and loved by his wife of 31 years, Susan Mitteer Flaherty. He leaves behind four sons, Matt Flaherty of Chicago, Illinois; Greg Budzak of Seattle, Washington; Scott Budzak (Kristin), and Jason Budzak (Lauren), both of Germantown, Tennessee; and his five grandchildren, Abby Crane, Reed, Jameson, Nolan, and Jordan.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Jean and Fran Flaherty and his brother Pat Flaherty. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Blair of Champaigne, Illinois; and Nancy Lubrea of Bartlett, Illinois.
John was an adoring husband, supportive father, and devoted grandfather, and was a sincere friend to all.
Services will be held at Collierville Funeral Home in Collierville, Tennessee on Sunday, December 4th.
Visitation will take place from 1 PM to 2 PM, Celebration of Life to follow from 2 PM to 3 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to charity of their choice in John’s honor.
