He will always be remembered as a loving, devoted, kind, generous son, husband, father and papaw. Thurman was loved by everyone who met him. He was born on July 17, 1928 in Fort Worth, Texas to Agnus and Reverend Wallace Calvin Clay.
Thurman was married to the love of his life, Amy, for 67 years until the time of her passing in December of 2013. During the early years of their marriage he proudly served in the U.S. Navy. In the early 50's they moved to Hurst, Texas to work at Bell Helicopter. There they helped establish and become charter members of the Hurst Church of God which is now known as Life Fellowship. They remained members until their death and served on many building programs as the church grew. He also custom built homes as Hurst was being established on the side. His hobbies were gardening, fishing, hunting, traveling, and playing his beloved Les Paul guitar. His church was his love and his family was his life. He served the Lord with all of his heart faithfully.
Thurman is survived by his daughter Gloria Deanne McFatridge and Son-in-law Gary of Hurst, Texas. Granddaughter, Michelle Box and husband Chris of Colleyville, Texas. Grandson Michael McFatridge and wife Aryn of North Richland Hills, Texas. 6 great-grandchildren; Nicholas, Karlee, Emma Rose, and Cadon Jack Box, Becket and Ava Drew McFatridge. Sister, Jenetta Lee Gilliland of Kerens, Texas. Numerous nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Amy I. King Clay, his parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
The visitation will be held from 4 o'clock to 6 o'clock in the afternoon on Sunday, January 19th, 2020 at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 in the afternoon on Monday, January 20th at Life Fellowship Church, 760 W. Hurst Blvd. in Hurst, Texas. Interment will follow at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park.
