Terry was born on June 3rd, 1950 in Chickasha, OK. She graduated from Texas Woman’s University with a degree in nursing, followed by her Master’s Degree in Hospital Administration from UT Arlington. Terry married Richard F Spivey, a Bell Helicopter employee, on Nov. 20, 1982.
Terry had a career as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) starting in 1982 and worked in that capacity in several hospitals in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. She was the Chief CRNA at Baylor Scott & White (All Saints) hospital in Fort Worth for about 10 years. Later she worked for 4 years as a CRNA at the University of California in San Francisco (UCSF) when Richard was Director of the Army’s AeroFlightDynamics Lab at Moffett Field in Mountain View, CA. The couple returned to the DFW area in 2013 when his four-year tour was completed.
Terry was a devoted member of several United Methodist Churches in the DFW area over the years. She was active in the Women’s groups and enjoyed sewing, quilting, playing Mahjong, and swimming. Terry had friends wherever she was. From her CRNA work at All Saints hospital, her activities at Martin UMC in Bedford, her presence at Alliance UMC in Keller, her friendship at Saginaw UMC in Saginaw, the friends she made at First UMC in Denton, and all our friends in United Church of Angel Fire in New Mexico.
Terry never met a stranger. She was a loving wife, a wonderful, but tough, mother, and would go out of her way to help anyone she knew. I was proud to be her husband and her partner. We will miss her terribly, we were all better people for having Terry in our lives.
She loved the mountains! The couple built a duplex-condo in Angel Fire, NM in 2009 and spent their summers there when the Texas heat got too hot!
Terry was preceded in death by her two sons, Aric and Ace Mabry. She was survived by her two step-sons, Brett Spivey, in West Hollywood, CA and Eric Spivey from Fort Worth, TX., Eric has two daughters, Meghan and Taylor Spivey from Fort Worth. Terry has a younger Sister, Susan Rumbelow from Van, TX. Susan has four children Sara, Maggie, Max, and Price. Sara, Maggie, and Max live near Susan in East Texas and Price lives in Alpine, TX.
Two memorial services are being considered. One in the DFW area where we worshiped in different churches as we moved around the area. The second service will be in Angel Fire, NM where we know many close friends. The DFW service date will depend on the COVID issue, but hopefully before the end of November. The Angel Fire service will happen next June when the Angel Fire folks return during the warm months.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.bluebonnethills.com for the Spivey family.
