Richard Ray Irwin passed away on September 25, 2021, at his home of 58 years in Blue Mound, Texas, at the age of 91. He was born to Effie Melissa and Ola Alexander Irwin on August 5, 1930, in Downers Grove, Illinois.
He met the love of his life, Betty, on a phone party line; they married in Hope, Arkansas, on April 20, 1954.
Richard was a staff sergeant in the Army and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Bell Helicopter after 27 years of service. He was a Master Mason and a member of the Lions Club. Richard was a lifelong baseball fan and a devoted outdoorsman. He considered himself a jack-of-all-trades, and a true master of few. He was known as a quiet man, as a man of few words; yet, his legacy will continue because his actions spoke loudly.
Richard is survived by his daughter Janet Henson of Wichita Falls and his sons Roger Irwin and Richard Irwin, and wife Michelle, all of Blue Mound. Surviving grandchildren are Hans Ditforth of Saginaw, Heath Ditforth of Ft. Worth, Kenny Adair of Little Rock, Arkansas, Alexander Irwin, and wife Bree, of Grandview, and Richard Irwin of Blue Mound. He also had four great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Betty Joyce, his sister Doris, his brothers Gayle, Lyle, and George, and grandson Scott Williams.
A graveside service will be held at Bluebonnet Hills in Colleyville on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at 12:30.
