Lillian Christine Kirkpatrick (nee Watson) was a lover of family, first and foremost, from her parents, older brother Julius, and her four sisters, Nora, Dorothy, Billie Mae and Julia Kaye to her husband, Eddie, and three sons, Russ, Gordon, and Billy Kent. She has now outlived them all except Russ, who will miss her every day. Lillian was born to Billy and Mary Watson in December of 1923, grew up through the Depression working the cotton fields of Sulphur Springs in East Texas. She loved all her sisters but she adored her older brother Julius, who died a World War II naval aviator hero on the USS Ben Franklin aircraft carrier.
Lillian’s early life was shaped by work, school and church and whatever fun she and her sisters could invent for themselves on the farm. She and Nora bravely moved together to Dallas in the early 40’s and worked concessions in the Palace movie theater downtown, opening up the bigger world to them, especially when actual movie stars came in to promote their latest picture! Lillian’s knight in shining armor, Eddie, came home from the war in 1943, and they started their life together. When Eddie died in 1989, she poured out her love on the rest of her family and the world. Beloved family still surviving include daughters-in-law Pat (Russ) and Debbie (Gordon), special grandchildren Kevyn Lea, Kyle and Robert, great-grandchildren Logan, Jackson and Harper, and numerous nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and nephews. She was a giver, never met a stranger and loved from her core.
She loved music and singing, teaching herself piano and guitar and teaching her sons the guitar. She found her personal faith early in married life and inspired Eddie to join her without asking. They were lifelong church goers and supporters, giving liberally of their time and money. While her main focus was making a good home for her family, she was a born salesman, successful enough to win numerous awards and earn expense paid trips with Eddie that were wonderful highlights of their life together. Rest in peace, sweet Mom…you’ve earned it.
