Kim was born in Carmichael, California on August 9, 1972. Before she was five, she also lived in Florida, Iowa, and England where she attended Mrs. Cockshedge’s preschool. Kim grew up in Glendale, Arizona. She graduated in the top of her class from Apollo High School in 1990 where she was on the varsity badminton team. She studied mathematics at the University of Arizona and finished her degree in 1994. While in college she joined Alpha Chi Omega; and continued as a proud sister and mentor of the chapter at UT Arlington.
Kim married John W. Riley December 30th, 1994. They settled in north Texas as newlyweds and later made Southlake their home. They are the proud parents of two daughters, Kaelyn and Ashlyn.
Kim was employed as an actuary at HealthMarkets in North Richland Hills, Texas for 25 years. She was awarded her Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries in 2001. Kim loved soccer and was active as a player in her childhood; and in adulthood as a coach, player and spectator of her 2 children and the USWNT.
Kim passed away after a long battle with metastatic breast cancer surrounded by her loving family and friends on March 28, 2020. Kim was adored by all she knew. Her laugh was infectious, her spirit was indefatigable. Kim was a fierce warrior, but gentle and kind. She always had a smile and a positive attitude. She loved her family more than anything in the world. Kim was a woman of steadfast faith and a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Grapevine, Texas.
She is survived by her husband John Riley and 2 daughters, Kaelyn and Ashlyn of Southlake, Texas; parents Ken and Nancy Klesner of Glendale, Arizona; brother and sister in law Keith & Katie Klesner and niece Eva & nephew Corbin of Eagle, Colorado.
Due to the current Covid-19 situation, there will be a private family service on Sunday April 5, 2020. After this global pandemic subsides a public celebration of life will be coordinated for all to attend.
In lieu of flowers, a GoFundMe has been set up to support the Riley family during this time. A portion of these funds will be allocated for a memorial for Kim at the request of her family.
