Joyce Laverne Samuels

Joyce Laverne Samuels of Bedford, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 20,2023. Joyce was born in Texas on June 15, 1934. She was the daughter of Otis Barry and Mary Alice Johnson. She attended Brewer High School in White Settlement. She had a keen eye for design and was always well styled. She was affectionately known by her grand children as “Maw Maw”. Joyce spent her early life as a full time homemaker and devoted mother raising a full house of seven children. She cherished holiday gatherings and family dinners while also having a passion for fashion, nature and the gospel. She was blessed enough to see her grandchildren raise children of their own and always had a kind and wise word of advice to share. She will be remembered in our hearts forever as a stern but comforting soul who loved her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her son Bruce Samuels, grandson Austin Little, sister Laura Brownlee, sister in law Grace Johnson, brothers Marvin and OJ Johnson. She is survived by her children Kelli Thurman ( Nick ), Stephanie Jones ( Bobby), Allyson King (Roy), and Lesley Hughes ( Chris ) and grandchildren, Sean Oswalt( Elle ), Nick Oswalt, Olivia Oswalt, Kristal Meacham ( Shayde), Missy Jones, Bubba Jones ( Kelly), Patrick Little ( Kat), McKenna Majors ( Tanner ), Hunter Hughes, Blake Samuels, Tyler Samuels and Scotty Samuels, and numerous great grand children. She is also survived by her sister in law Joanne Samuels, brothers Orin and Gary Johnson, and sister Trudy Johnson.

There will be celebration of life at Piccolo Mondo restaurant, 829 E. Lamar Blvd, Arlington on March 4, 5:00-6:00 pm for family members and 6-7:30 for friends and acquaintances.
