Dan was born in Dallas on June 14th 1949. He went to high school in Grapevine, married Laverne in 1966 and graduated in 1967. He enlisted in the Army soon thereafter and completed his tour of Vietnam in 1968, returning to his newborn son Jody. After receiving an honorable discharge, he went on to have a long career in the trucking industry.
After joining the Church in Aurora, Dan became very involved becoming a Deacon, teaching Sunday school, and volunteering many hours for the jail ministry.
Dan had a passion for life, there were not many hobbies he did not attempt. He rode motorcycles, dove for lobsters, raised and rode horses, and even restored and flew his own plane. As a skilled carpenter, he loved to work with wood, building furniture for the family brought him joy. He was always ready for the next adventure and wanted everyone to come along and enjoy the experiences with him.
Dan is survived by his wife Laverne and his son Jody. His extended family of friends and relatives will dearly miss him.
A memorial service for James will be held Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Aurora Baptist Church, 201 Derting Road E, Aurora, Texas 76078.
