Ms. Eleanor Lee Foster

Eleanor Lee Foster went to be with her Maker on the morning of June 28, 2022 at 5:30 AM. She was born in Rochester, Minn. To William and Helen Bradfield Foster on June 22, 1929. The three of them moved to Haver, Montana where William was hired as the first physics teacher at Montana State University.

When her father died, Eleanor and her mother moved to Kansas City, Mo.to live with Helen’s two sisters. Eleanor graduated at the University of Kansas and moved to Dallas, TX. to work for an insurance company. After she received her teaching certificate, she was hired by the Irving Independent School District. She taught fourth grade at Paul Keyes, and John R. Good Elementary Schools for 31 years.

In 1983-84 she was named Irving Independent Schools Teacher of the Year for her outstanding work with students.

She attended First Baptist Church of Irving and sang in the choir. She was a life member of Texas State Teachers Association. Her interests included collecting bricks, antique glass, marbles, and insulators. She and her partner of 46 years, June Boswell, sold the insulator collection and redecorated their house at 509 Robin Hood in Irving.

Eleanor was an accomplished pianist and was proud of being asked to play on the radio station in Kansas City as a child. Her grandparents were able to listen to her on their battery radio even though their farm in the country had no electricity. She sent them a post card to tell them when to listen.

She was a member of the DAR and season ticket owner for years at Texas Stadium in Irving.

After Irving, Eleanor moved to Fort Worth to live with Irene Norman and two other teacher friends in a duplex they built in 2008. She enjoyed living part time in Ruidoso, NM, with all the animals from bears to humming birds.

She is survived by several cousins and a host of friends and former students.
