Doris Allene Vaughn passed away on April 7, 2017. Allene was born in northeast Arkansas in the early 1920s and grew up on a farm with her parents and four siblings. Life on the farm was difficult but it gave her the strength and endurance she would need throughout her life. After graduating high school, she attended Freed-Hardeman University in Tennessee and then embarked on a brief career as a schoolteacher. Allene soon decided it was time to expand her horizons and became a Pan Am flight attendant. She traveled the world and soon met her husband, Gene, a Pan Am captain. After living in various cities abroad, they moved to Pound Ridge, New York and started a family. Allene was truly the wife of noble character mentioned in Proverbs 31. She was steadfast and resourceful, always devoted to her family and an outstanding homemaker and cook. She was her family’s primary spiritual influence and brought her husband and three children to faith in Jesus. She regularly drove 100 miles round-trip each Sunday with her family to attend the Manhattan Church of Christ in New York City. Allene and Gene later lived in Coral Gables, Florida, Scottsdale, Arizona, and Boerne, Texas and, upon Gene’s death, Allene moved to North Richland Hills, Texas where she lived for more than 30 years. For many years Allene was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Bedford, Texas where she taught Bible class and participated in the singing ministry. She later attended The Hills Church in North Richland Hills. Allene spent her last years in assisted living and a skilled nursing facility. Although she suffered from dementia, she was always smiling and loved by everyone who cared for her. She is now at home in heaven, whole and happy once again in the arms of Jesus. Allene was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Vaughn. She is survived by her son Douglas Vaughn and wife Paula of North Richland Hills, son John Vaughn of Eagan, Minnesota, daughter Janet Elliott and husband Howard of Centennial, Colorado, grandson Brandon Elliott and wife Julie of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, granddaughter Emily Park and husband Johnny of Murphy, Texas, granddaughter Arianna Groven and husband Mike of Aurora, Colorado, granddaughter Alexandra Vaughn of Houston, and twin great-grandsons Jackson and Brady Elliott.
