Mr. Cecil S Mathis Jr.

On Saturday, March 4, 2023, Cecil Shelton Mathis, Jr., a loving husband and father passed away at the age of 79.

Cecil was born on April 1, 1943 in Dallas, Texas to Cecil Shelton Mathis, Sr. and Nita Brummett Mathis. Cecil grew up in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, and graduated from Sunset High School in 1961. He then went on to college, where he earned a law degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas during the summer of 1968, and he practiced law for 50 in Dallas, Texas. He married his high school sweet heart Nancy Nichols Mathis on April 19, 1963. They raised a daughter, Ceslyn Mathis (Michael), and two sons, Jason Mathis (Cyndi) and Brian Mathis (Mindy).

Cecil had a passion for BBQ, cooking it and eating it. We had many BBQ meals with family and friends over the years. He enjoyed reading John Grisham and Tom Clancy Novels. Some of his favorite music was from Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, and Johnny Mathis. He would always have classical music playing while he worked. He adored his grandchildren and loved to play with them and watch them grow.

Cecil is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Sr. and Nita. He is survived by his wife Nancy and three children, two sisters Sue Smith and Kathy Price. Four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
