Angie Loretta (Ball) Elkins passed away suddenly and peacefully on July 27, 2022, at the age of 88. Angie was born in Hammon, Oklahoma, the eldest of four children to James and Ruth Ball. She was born in the midst of the Great Depression and Dust Bowl in western Oklahoma, where she began developing the great fortitude and determination she characterized throughout her life. The family moved to Rogers, Arkansas, where Angie attended Rogers High School and played basketball for the Mountaineers. She started her nursing career in Oklahoma City where she later found the love of her life, Franklin P. Elkins. They were married in April 1967. Angie brought her three daughters and one son, and Franklin brought his two sons into the blended family. They moved to Bedford, TX, in 1973, and Angie continued her 30-year nursing career in the local hospital and medical clinics.
Angie was known for her love of family and her great generosity—putting others before herself. Her smile lit up the room wherever she was, and her love lit our lives while she was with us. Two special family traditions were established that were cherished by the entire extended family: the annual fishing trip to Bull Shoals, Arkansas, and Christmas-time family gatherings. When grandchildren came along, Nani and Papa’s house was one that the grands anticipated with all it’s joy, love, and laughter.
Angie was faithful to remember family birthdays and kept up with extended family members over the many years. She enjoyed her children greatly—her babies as she called us—as well as doting passionately over her many grands and greats.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Ruth Ball, and her husband of 35 years Franklin P. Elkins, her brother Alvin Ball, and her step-son Gary Elkins. She is survived by two sisters, Alyce “Janette” Vaught and Diane Summers; eldest daughter Teresa Boyd and grandchildren Brian Boyd, Angela Woodward, and Jason Boyd; daughter Debi Mustain Smith and grandchildren Dustin Mustain, Ryan Mustain, and Melissa Wright; daughter Anitra Phillips and son-in-law Scott Phillips and grandchild David Leo; and son Ralph Messenger and grandchildren Mark Messenger and Robert Messenger, and one step-son Rick Elkins and grandchildren Jeremy Elkins and Jessica Longoria; and grandchildren Heather Rotz and Jeffrey Elkins. Her 19 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren brought her much joy as well. Angie will be deeply missed by all her family and dear friends. We rest in the knowledge that she is now at peace in the light of our Lord in Heaven.
