Ronnie Wayne Treat

In 1943, they moved to Jacinto City in the great state of Texas, where Ron graduated from Galena Park High School in 1958. From there he joined Squadron 1 of the Corps of Cadets at the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, where he graduated with the class of 1962, earning a degree in journalism - and Earl Rudder’s signature on the diploma.

In the summer of 1962, at a 42 party, Ron met Elizabeth Ann Cottle. They were married in May of 1963.

In November 1965, Ron was drafted into the United States Army and served at Fort Polk in Louisiana until 1967.

Ron and Ann began their family in August of 1968 with the birth of their son, Troy Wayne. He was quickly followed by twin boys, Travis Rex and Trevor Don in July of 1970. With three boys under two, their family was complete.

In December of 1973, they moved their young family from Houston to College Station, where he and Ann raised their boys and continued to live until retiring and moving out to Hilltop Lakes in October of 2014.

Ron began his professional life writing copy for newspaper and TV advertisements. For twenty-seven years he owned a teacher and office product supply store – known as ”TOPS”. After selling TOPS, he fought off retirement for another eight years by clerking for Brazos County Justice of the Peace Precinct 1.

Ron lived a life full of service. He was heavily involved in College Station Little League, serving as coach, vice president, president, and board member throughout the 1970s and 80s. He was a charter member of the Wellborn Lions Club, and board member of the Lions Club Eye Bank.

In retirement, he continued to serve as a member of the Hilltop Lakes Lions Club, and became president and board member of the Hilltop Lakes theater group, “Troupe Over the Hill”.

Most importantly, for 68 years Ron was a faithful Christian. He served as a song leader, Bible class teacher, deacon, and elder. Ron and Ann have had many church families over the years, including Southside in Pasadena, North Shore in Houston, Twin City in College Station, Benchley in Benchley, Southwest in Wellborn, and finally the Highway 90 congregation in Madisonville, Texas.

Ron and Ann celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2023.

On November 29, 2024, at his home in Hilltop Lakes, Ron passed from this life after a lengthy battle with Leukemia.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Lillie Treat, and his sisters, Roberta, Earline, and Jan.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years – Elizabeth Ann Treat, his sons — Troy Treat and wife Susan of Cypress, TX, Travis Treat and wife Amy of College Station, TX, and Trevor Treat of Conroe, TX, his grandchildren — Kathryn Ann Burwitz and husband Tyler of College Station, TX, Taylor Hernandez and husband Michael of Bryan, TX, and Tanner Treat of Bryan, TX, and his great-grandchildren — Emmalyn Burwitz, Ford Burwitz, Grayson Treat, and Lauren Hernandez.

Ron never met a stranger and will be missed by all.

A visitation for Ronnie will be held Thursday, December 5, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station, 2901 Texas Ave South, College Station, TX 77845. A funeral service will occur Friday, December 6, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. A burial will follow at Wellborn Cemetery, 4119 Greens Prairie Rd, College Station, TX 77845.
