Mrs. Veach was born April 5, 1918 in Jewett, Texas. She graduated from Bryan High School and attended McKenzie Baldwin Business School and later courses in Dallas, Texas. She worked as a secretary for the Civil Air Patrol in Bryan and for a U.S. Senator in Dallas before moving to Houston where she resided the next 42 years. Mrs. Veach retired in 1983 after 20 years as a legal secretary for a trial lawyer with Andrews Kurth LLP Law Firm.
Mrs. Veach was a 60 year past member of the Order of the Eastern Star, past member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, past member of the Junior League of Houston, and a past volunteer with the Christian Community Service Food Pantry.
Mrs. Veach was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Byrns Ellis and Bertha Hull Ellis; two brothers, Gus A. Ellis, and L.B. "Pete" Ellis; one sister, Janelle Ellis Gilstrap; her husband, John L. Veach, Jr.; and a niece, Kay Gilstrap Hall and her husband Randy of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Survivors include a nephew, Jack M. Gilstrap, Jr. and his wife Lana of Allen; four nieces, Shirley Ellis McCullough of San Antonio, Exa Ellis York of College Station, Janice Gilstrap Wallace and her husband Jerry of Marshall, and Iva Ellis of Houston; as well as numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
If friends desire, memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church in Houston where Mrs. Veach was a member.
