Edwin Mark Matlock (age 70) passed away on July 28, 2024, at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in College Station, Texas. Most recently he and his wife were residents of Missouri City, Texas, where they lived with their youngest daughter. Mark was born in Bryan, Texas on February 17, 1954 to William Tillman Matlock, Jr. & Elizabeth Ruth Jenkins Matlock. As a child his family moved to Robert Lee, Texas, where he graduated from Robert Lee High School.
With aspirations to play golf professionally, Mark was a scholarship athlete for the Angelo State Ram golf squad and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business. Mark also met his future wife, Denise V. Frost while attending Angelo State University. They were married at First Baptist Church in Brady, Texas on July 19, 1975. In October 1976 they celebrated the birth of their first daughter, Stephanie Matlock. Almost three years later they joyously welcomed their youngest daughter, Kristen Matlock, in August 1979. After college graduation, Mark worked in various sales and management positions within multiple industries. In the late 1980’s Mark returned to school enrolling at Texas A&M University to earn necessary coursework to become a CPA.
For many years Mark was an avid and passionate golfer. Mark also loved music, often boasting he was a fan of “both kinds of music…Country and Western.” He also loved any good parody or comedic song. Mark loved to play the guitar and sing (even though he would joke that he was tonally challenged). Mark was a gun enthusiast who enjoyed deer hunting and trips to the shooting range. His other hobbies included woodworking, working on cars, and other home improvement projects. Mark loved to laugh and enjoyed a good joke or comedy. He enjoyed going out dancing with his wife (country/western and jitterbug especially), spending time with friends/family, and was quick to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Mark was also known for his love of animals and “grand-pups.”
Mark is preceded in death by his father (William T. Matlock, Jr.), his mother (Elizabeth R. Matlock), his sister (Madeline Matlock), brother (William T. Matlock, III), and his in-laws (E.W. & Polly Frost). He is survived by his wife (Denise V. Matlock), his daughters (Kristen and Stephanie Matlock), nieces, and cousins.
