Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday May 31 at Parkway Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Wellborn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station.
Bob was born to Ruth (Mosby) and Howell H. Johnson, in Pecos, Texas. He graduated from McCamey High School in 1949 and enrolled in Texas A&M College, where he earned a B.S. degree in Animal Husbandry in 1953.
He served in the U.S. Army for two years, attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He married Gloria Ann Childs in Wichita Falls, Texas, on June 4, 1954. While they were stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington, their son Ronny Wayne was born. After his discharge from the army, Bob served as County Agricultural Agent in El Paso, Ward and Martin Counties. Their daughter Holly Jayne was born while they lived in Stanton, Texas.
They moved to College Station in 1966 to enroll in graduate school at Texas A&M. Bob earned a M.Ed degree in Agricultural Education in 1967 and a Ph.D. degree in Administration of Higher Education in 1974. He worked in the Student Financial Aid Office at TAMU as the Associate Director in charge of the Scholarship Program.
Bob was a charter member of Parkway Baptist Church where he served in many areas, including teacher of youth and adults, and was honored as a Deacon Emeritus in 2012. After retiring from A&M, he enjoyed serving at the church on various building and remodeling projects.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Howell John Johnson and Billy Neal Johnson.
His greatest treasure was his family and he was so proud of all of them. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Gloria, his son Ronny W. Johnson and wife Diane of New Braunfels, his daughter Holly Johnson of College Station, grandchildren Reagan and Everett Parks of New Braunfels, Jason Briggs of College Station, Morgan and Scott Schneider of New Braunfels, Marina Briggs of Changshu, Jiangshu, China, Thomas Briggs, recently discharged from the U.S. Army, and Amanda Cronauer of Bryan, step-grandchildren Jared Morris and Jenny of Conroe, Kiley and Justin Dunnam of Portland. He had six great-grandchildren: Logan and Riley Parks, Sadie Rea Schneider, Brinlee and Rhett Morris, and Wimberley Dunnam.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s name may be made to Parkway Baptist Church Building Fund or Traditions Hospice.
