Gersham E. Daley gained his basic education at Williamsfield All Age School. Pops knew that farming was not for him as a young man. With all that they had to do as children, he did not want it as a lifetime career. He decided to move to a nearby town and he tried various skills, even tailoring, and shoemaking, but they weren’t appealing to him. He finally got a job as a dishwasher at Halfmoon Hotel. He was such an ardent worker, well-loved and made himself useful in many other areas of the kitchen. The hotel saw his potential and decided to send him to various other islands for specialized training in his field, and he quickly climbed the ladder in his professional career to become head chef at the Half Moon Hotel, a premiere hotel in Jamaica. He retired from this position in 1976 when he immigrated to the United States.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, seven sisters and his parents.
