A well known and respected member of the deep sea fishing community in Port Canaveral, Captain Blake was born in Sumter, SC, on June 20, 1932, and grew up in Little River, SC, where he acquired his lifelong interest and passion in deep sea fishing. He moved to Cape Canaveral in the early Fifties and commanded one of the original charter fishing boats sailing out of the Port while pursuing a career at sea that spanned more than 50 years. He was a long standing member of the River of Life Assembly of God where he served as Deacon in the church for many years. He is survived by wife Gayetta Blake, daughters Jeannie Conyers, Toni Guinn, Terri White and Traci Wood, sons Eugene F. Blake and James White, sister, Willie Mae Clemons of Little River, SC, nineteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Tuesday May 24, 2011 at River of Life Assembly of God church, 1890 N. Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island, FL from 1pm-2pm followed by funeral services at 2 PM. Burial will follow at Brevard Memorial Park, Cocoa, FL. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions be made to the Lymphoma Cancer Society, Newport News, VA. Arrangements entrusted to Brevard Memorial Funeral Home, Cocoa, FL.
