Debra “Debbie” Cottle passed away peacefully at home with family on Friday, October 11, 2024. Debbie was born on February 24, 1947, in Abilene, TX, and moved to Brevard County in 1960. She was a loving mother, grandmother “Memaw”, and great-grandmother.
Debbie is survived by her three children: Tommye LaNette (Jason) Gilbert, Aaron (Ann) Cottle, and Dana Cottle (Greg) Badal; grandchildren: Matthew, Ella Marie (Ryan), Joseph, Andrew and Serenity Cottle; Nathaniel, Joseph and Tiffanie Badal, and Garret, Elizabeth, and Gabby Miner; and great-grandson, Cameron Cottle.
Debbie worked for Florida Today Newspaper for over 25 years as a Typesetter in the Production Department. Even in retirement, she continued to read the daily newspaper cover to cover, often clipping out stories of importance to share with loved ones.
Debbie loved her family, pets, collecting knickknacks, and attending family dinners & celebrations with her many grandchildren. She was passionate about history, especially the history of Brevard County and how it has changed over the years. Her favorite pastime, however, was listening to her record collection and having pizza parties with her “little man”, Nathaniel, each weekend.
Debbie was a loving, kind, and understanding mother and a doting Memaw, who was incredibly proud of all her children, grandchildren, and their accomplishments. She will be dearly missed but not forgotten.
Calling hours will be Thursday, October 24, 2024, 1:30-2:00 pm, with a funeral service to start at 2:00 pm the same day at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home 1360 N. Courtenay Parkway in Merritt Island. Graveside service will be held at Brevard Memorial Park, 320 Spring St. in Cocoa at 3:30 pm.
