Roy was born to Wallace Gregory and Bernice Bailey Gregory on August 25, 1946, in Quanah, TX. Roy married Linda Ashley on May 29, 1969, in Brazoria County, TX.
Roy proudly served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1969 as a Medical Specialist. He attained the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and his Medical Badge.
Roy spent his career as a Plant Instrument Technician, but in his spare time he and Linda enjoyed traveling, bird and eagle watching, classic car shows, and fishing. After retiring, Roy spent time as a Post Trustee of the VFW Post 8576 in Clute, TX. He loved volunteering, organizing turkey shoots, fishing, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is proceeded in death by his father, Wallace Gregory; mother, Bernice Bailey Gregory; brother, Melven Gregory; and wife, Linda Gregory
Roy is survived by his daughter, Shelly Crosby; sons, Larry Spears, and Wallace “Wally” Gregory (Michaele); brothers, Danny Gregory (Elaine), Gary Gregory (Rhonda) and Allen Gregory; sisters, Carla Reed and Reida Lewis; grandchildren, Carolyn Dickerson (Jon), Cristen Simpson, Brian Spears (Amy), Sasha Sonnier (Rachel), Brianna Walker, Kourtney Gregory, Jerry Spears, and Joseph “JoJo” Spears; great grandchildren, Kaden Dickerson, Lexie Dickerson, Presley Simpson, Callie Spears, Jana Spears, Julia Spears, Robert “Bobby” Spears, Olivia Spears, Jayton Shockley, Jayvion Shockley, Keylon Monroe, and numerous other extended family.
The family of Roy would like to also recognize his long-time caregiver, Mary Jane Mullins, and Ahmed/Choice Hospice Care Team.
Serving as pallbearers are Jon Dickerson, Kaden Dickerson, Tony Kershaw, Walker Kershaw, Camden Kershaw, Tyler Harden, Jason Johnson, and Jamey Spears. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Spears, Joseph “JoJo” Spears, Jayston Shockley, and Jayvion Shockley, as well as VFW Post 8576.
A visitation for Roy will be held Saturday, March 2, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Restwood Funeral Home, Clute, TX. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM. A committal service will occur at 2:00 PM.
