John was born in Temple, Texas and later moved with his family to Hopewell, VA where he graduated from Hopewell High School in 1945. He was employed at Hercules Powder Co. until September of 1947 when he attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute, earning his BS in 1951, MS in 1953, and PhD in 1955 in Chemical Engineering while also serving as a 2nd Lt. in the Army Corps of Engineers from 1951 to 1963.
John joined Dow Chemical in 1955 where he worked until retiring after 39 years. He then became a licensed realtor working in the Lake Jackson area for 10 years. He was very active in his church, serving as an Elder and Sunday school teacher. He loved Jesus his Lord and lived close with Him.
John is preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Lastovica; wife, Joyce of 60 years; brother, Walter; and sister, Anna.
He is survived by his sister Helen Ponko; son, John (Tina) Lastovica; grandson, Ryan (Fiona) Lastovica; great-grandchildren, Jessie and Sam; son, Jim (Amy) Lastovica; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of John's life will be held Thursday, December 12, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Restwood Funeral Home, 1038 W. Plantation Dr, Clute, Texas 77531.
