Don enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing poker with friends. He lived for his hunting and fishing trips. Over the years he had leases in Uvalde, Freer, and across East Texas. Some of the more notable hunts were his elk hunts. Participating in bass fishing tournaments was something he loved being involved in. Don was an avid sports fan never missing an Astros game. If there was a college basketball game on, he was watching until the end. His love for sports extended to watching his son Cody in every single football game. Rain or shine, he never missed a single game. He took great pride in taking care of his and Kathy’s land in Flatonia, TX.
He is preceded in death by his father, Billy Sr., mother Lillie Mae, and sister Charlene Schaeffer. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Hinkle of Lake Jackson; son Cody Simmons and wife, Sara, and grandson Slade of Angleton; his son Nicholas Simmons of Seattle; his brother Billy Hinkle Jr. and wife Debbie; and sister Phyllis Hinkle.
A private service will be held for Donald Hinkle for close family and friends.
