Danny was born on November 1, 1959, to Crystal Sandlin in Denver Colorado. Danny was a precocious boy who had always dreamed of being a police officer. He obtained many jobs in his life before landing his dream profession. He graduated from the police academy in 1989, He began his career with the Freeport Police Department in 1993, where he served his community for almost 31 years. His love for his community and law enforcement family was unwavering.
Danny also enjoyed watching movies and was an avid John Wayne fan. Danny loved baseball, from playing little league to coaching his younger siblings and grandsons. If he wasn’t at the police station you could find him watching one of his grandsons play. Danny’s antics were legendary and those who knew him have their own stories to tell. Anyone who knew Danny was touched by his kindness, humor, and mild temperament. He was truly a peacemaker and was always a source of positivity and laughs. He was a principled man of integrity always in search of the truth and used his faith in his profession and personal life.
Early in life, Danny met the love of his life Juli. They have been married for 46 years. Danny was Juli’s rock, and his personality perfectly complemented hers. Danny was blessed with a large and loving family, with three daughters, 8 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
Danny was predeceased in death by his sister Pamela Whitworth, bonus father and mentor Wilbur Sandlin, Jr., and brother-in-law Robert Blair. He is survived by his wife, Juli, daughters Shaunda Gillchriest, Stacy Gillchriest, and Danyelle (Johnny) Moreno, grandchildren Kirsten (Cruz) Fernadez, Kristian (Kadence) Gillchriest, Matthew Sims, Karson Gillchriest, Aubrey and Alec Moreno, Tyler and Dancia Gillchriest, great-grandchildren Briella Gillchriest, Laila Fernandez, and Branson Gillchriest. Danny is also survived by his siblings Cindy Blair, Billy (Dee) Whitworth, Terri (Jim) Nicol, Judy (John) Conn, Chuck Whitworth, Laura (Randy) Davis, Gerri (Tim) Applegate, and Diane Davis.

Services will be on Friday, June 7th, 2024 at Family Life Church in Lake Jackson, TX. The viewing will be from 10:00 am-12:00 pm. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm, followed by a graveside service.
