Richard was born on May 25, 1940 in Fresno, California to Josephine Beard. He was a devoted family man who enjoyed playing golf and traveling with his wife. Richard started his career as an Officer for the California Highway Patrol in 1969. He spent 10 years working in the King City area before transferring to the Fresno area where he finished his career retiring in 1996. Richard passed away after a short illness on March 31, 2017.
Richard was preceded in death by his daughter Kandi Viau and his grandson Matthew “Blake” Viau.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years; Frances Viau of Clovis, his son Richard Viau Jr. and wife Deborah; his daughter; Debbie Carlson and husband Darrin, his brothers; Jerry Viau and wife Carol, Willy Viau and wife Kathy, his two sisters; Gloria Chunn and husband Joe and Janice Gilmore. Richard also leaves behind his five grandchildren; Jacob Viau, Bobbie Jo Warren, Niki Penida, Kiela Carlson, Codie Carlson and three great-grandchildren; Hunter Warren, Bradley Viau, and Nevaeh Viau.
Funeral services will be held at Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 220 N. Peach Ave., Clovis, CA 93612 on Monday, April 10, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.
