Beloved husband of Ila for 69 years; loving father of Judy Maltese (Carmen), Bill Matthes (Lisa), and Gary Matthes (Rosemarie Marcil); proud and loving grandfather of Danielle, Jason, Michael, and Jackie (Jacob); great-grandfather of Wilhelmina and Naomi.
Bob Graduated from Pershing High School in 1947 and then served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Thereafter, Bob began his career at Dodge Truck as a mechanic. A few years later Bob accepted a position at Fisher Body (GM Tech Center) as a metal model maker and advanced to a leader position. He retired after just over 30 years. In his spare time, Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching all sports. He fished often and looked forward to deer hunting season with his friends. In his younger years, he loved to play baseball and played for his high school team. Above all, Bob loved his family. Bob and Ila planned many camping trips with their children. They also liked to travel and spent time in many locations throughout the US, Mexico, and Europe.
The family will greet guests from 2:00pm until 7:00pm with a 3:00pm funeral service on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at Kaul Funeral Home, 35201 Garfield Rd. Clinton Twp., Michigan. Private committal at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Red Cross.
