Raymond William Billings, of Shelby Twp., passed away, just shy of his 68th birthday, on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at his favorite place, “The Shack” in Cass City, after a weekend of being surrounded friends and family. Ray was a fearless warrior and valiant fighter of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma for the past five years.
Beloved husband of Donna for 28 years; adored father of Holly (Lloyd) Sova, Scott (Donna) Billings, and RJ (April) Billings; step-father of Justin (Amanda) Wheeler and Kelly Wheeler; proud grandpa of Cooper, Maddie, Carrson, Connor, Jenna, Lora, Molly, Dakota, Gerald, Hunter, and Aiden. Ray is also survived by his mother, Betty Billings; his siblings, Patty Goldman, Denise (Owen) Mack, and Michele (Greg) Piancyk; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Billings.
Ray was a mentor and a role model for many people, especially his nephews who lovingly referred to him as “The Legend of ice-fishing". He was a lover of nature and outdoors; being an avid bow hunter with a proud trophy of an 18-point buck. Ray held a high standard of being the king of ringers at horseshoes, and being an excellent processor of deer jerky and venison sausage, and made the best fish (Papa's Chicken) ever. He retired from Ford after 30 years of loyal service as a material coordinator. Following his retirement, he became a gifted handyman, and was an excellent euchre player and really enjoyed his “Kool-Aid”. Ray’s most proud moments were spent with his grandchildren, whom he loved with all his heart.
The family will greet friends for a celebration of Ray’s life from 9:00am until time of memorial service at 1:30pm on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Kaul Funeral Home, 35201 Garfield Rd., Clinton Twp., MI 48035.
