Edward "Ed" Allen DeMent, aged 62 of Chesterfield, Michigan, passed away at home on April 29th, 2024, after a terminal diagnosis of cancer. Ed was born to mother Janet Vanpeteghem (née Powell) in Akron, Ohio on January 15th, 1962.
Ed was a beloved husband, phenomenal father and grandfather, devoted son, sibling, and uncle, and cherished friend to all those who were blessed to know him. Ed is survived by his wonderful wife of 34 years, Jenifer DeMent (née Deyak), his children Amber, Eddie, Eric (Stephanie), and Beth, his grandchildren, Emily and Lily, and his siblings Jim, Gabby, Dan, Randy, Chip, Charlene, and Bridget, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his mother Janet, and sister, Candy.
Ed always had a drive for helping others both personally and professionally. Ed was a Fire Engine Operator of the Detroit Fire Department and retired after 17 years of dutiful service.
Ed enjoyed the outdoors and frequented trips "up north", where he was always in the sun, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and often ended his evenings sitting around a bonfire. An avid music fan, Ed could always be found listening to country, classic rock, and motown music during these activities. Ed had a passion for golf and could be found on the courses throughout his life, from league golfing in his younger years to recreational golfing at every opportunity in his older years.
Ed's celebration of life will take place on May 5th, 2024, at Kaul Funeral Home (35201 Garfield Rd, Clinton Twp, MI 48035), from the hours of 11 AM to 3 PM, with service beginning at 3 PM.
