Very sorry to hear this news. Although it was many years ago, I was close to this family when I lived in Michigan.  His brother Gary and I were school chums and best friends and we still speak occasionally. Bill indeed was a “Big Brother”.  I remember his smile and Teddy Bear personality. Our condolences to all. Hug each other tight. God Bless all. 

Bill and I were stationed together in Pa. after our overseas duty.  We hit it off right away being we were both from the midwest. We both married our sweethearts in the fall of 70. We didn't have much money but always found things to do. Gettysburg was a short drive and visited the historic battlefield often. Once we went to the Jersey Shore in the spring of 1971. The pool was cold of course but it didn't bother us. We both dove right in. 
I was discharged on a Friday and Bill was discharged on Monday. We spent the weekend at the Shariton Inn and of course we had a great time. I teased Bill all weekend that he was still in the Army and I was a civilian.  My wife and I had no car as the torque converter had gone out and so after removing the whole works from the car at least twice we decided that the Ford was not going to make it back to Minnesota  and Bill came to our rescue. He said Jan had a family reunion in Minnesota and if we wanted we could rent a bumper trailer, load up his and our things and split the cost to Detroit first for a few days and then to Minnesota. It worked out great. Our travel home was a great adventure. We met and stayed at Bills parents and met so many of his friends and relatives. 
We have many great memories of Bill as I'm sure everyone does. He was a top notch guy, always there for us and was a great joke teller. He had his own special way of telling that joke. Bill will be missed deeply.  May he rest in peace. 

Uncle Bill was a great man who will be very missed. He was a giant teddy bear that was always happy to hug and kiss loved ones. He could tell a story like no other! As my godfather, living away up north or other cities, he always sent me  a birthday package and it meant the world to me to wait for that box and rush to open it up. I’ll always remember him. Prayers go out to Jason, Amy and boys, and all the Nelson family who are feeling the hole in life without him.
