Arthur S. Herrala, better known as Captain Art Herrala, age 91, of Sterling Heights, Michigan, passed away on January 13, 2021. He is the beloved husband of almost 50 years to Woodie; Dear brother of Carmen (Yvonne), and dearest brother-in-law of Joe (Ann) Neme, Dick (Irene) Neme and Marlene Neme (Bill McFeely); Treasured uncle to a multitude of nieces and nephews on both sides of his family.
Art will be remembered as a wonderful and caring person by those who knew him. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, and lived in the Metro Detroit area for most of his life. He attended maritime school, and worked for the Boblo Company for 43 years, ultimately retiring as a Ship Captain for the Boblo Boats. He married the love of his life, Woodie Neme, on February 19, 1971, and they shared almost 50 great years of marriage. They traveled practically all over the world together, but also enjoyed golfing and bowling, and time out on their small craft boat. He will be greatly missed.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 17, 2021 from 2-6 PM at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road, Clinton Township, MI 48038. Memorial contributions may be made in Art’s memory to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Capuchin Soup Kitchen.
