She was the beloved wife of the late Silas. Loving Mother of Bertha Jean Stone, Bessie Mavis Aleshire, the late Andy Lee (Kay) and the late Anna Mae Weeks. The dear Grandmother of 15, Great-Grandmother of 24, Great-Great-Grandmother of 20, and the Great-Great-Great-Grandmother of 4. Anna was also survived by brothers Arlie (Lora) Ramey and Franklin (June) Ramey and Sisters Juanita Ramey, Nancy Louise (Matthew) McGuigan and Loretta Mullins.
Anna was born on November 11, 1912 to Nancy Ball and Otis Blackburn in Stone, Kentucky now known as McAndrews. She was the oldest of 13 children. She married Silas on April 20, 1927; together they lived in a coal mining town where they made ends meet. They eventually moved toward West Virginia where she owned and operated a restaurant and boarding house.
When business dried up Anna took her family and moved to Detroit in search of a better life. There she worked for Packard, and for the McCord Corporation as a “Rosie the Riveter”. From there she went to Henry Ford Hospital and worked until her retirement on March 3, 1977, retiring at the age of 65 with 28 years seniority as the Supervisor of Housekeeping. In her retirement as through her life she had been assisting others in the raising of their children until they were all grown. She lived her final years as she wanted, with the ones who loved and cared for her. Little Missy was truly loved and will be deeply missed.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 24th. Visitation 11:00am to 3:00pm with a prayer service at 3pm at Resurrection Funeral Home 40800 Hayes Rd, Clinton Township, Michigan.
