Born on February 23, 1934 in Cleveland, Ohio, Patricia (“Pat”) was the daughter of the late William and Bertha Listman. After marrying Emmett (“Bud”) Quackenbush on November 23, 1955 they moved to Waterloo where they raised six children. She was a devout Catholic and extremely active in St. Mary’s church. She was also involved with the Waterloo Lionettes, and North Seneca Ambulance where she served as an Emergency Medical Technician for many years. Pat spent her children’s early years as a stay at home mom, but later went back to college while her children were in school and graduated as Valedictorian of her class from the State University of New York at (“SUNY”) Oswego in 1979. She subsequently worked as a juvenile probation officer and later as a DWI probation officer.
Pat and Bud spent many years traveling throughout the United States and took cruises each year all over the world. In the summer, they never lost an opportunity to visit their children in Michigan, North Carolina, Connecticut and New York. Pat enjoyed traveling, yearly cruise adventures, and sharing hundreds of pictures of her travels with family. She loved crossword puzzles, going to concerts and the theatre, and food – she never turned down an offer of dessert.
Most importantly, Pat loved music. She enjoyed listening to her children practice voice, piano, alto saxophone, clarinet, oboe, flute, and trombone and went to every band and choral concert, parade, and musical her children participated in. She passed on her love of music to several of her children and grandchildren who later went into careers in music. Even while suffering from significant dementia, if she heard a few bars of a song, without missing a beat, she could recall and sing the remainder.
Patricia is survived by her children William Quackenbush (Deb), Carol Buck, (Ralph), Marie Cockey (Jonathan), Holly Darin (Richard), and Stephen Quackenbush (Amy); 14 grandchildren Jennifer Gramling (Chad), Stephanie Quackenbush, Tori and Jeremy Buck (Cree), Sara Pasacreta (Nick), Trisha and Brennan Cockey (Grace), Margaret, Emily, Elizabeth, Richard, and Mary Darin, and Danielle and Laura Russo; eight great-grandchildren Daphne, Stella, and Amelia Gramling, Aiden Underland, Tyler, Lilly, Leah, and Trey Om; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Emmett and her son Michael.
A memorial service will be held at a later date and she will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery in Waterloo, N.Y. with her husband Emmett and son Michael.
Donations in her memory may be made to North Seneca Ambulance, 1645 North Road, Waterloo, NY 13165.
