Marion Elizabeth Rode, 91 of Clinton (formerly Guilford), passed away peacefully on September 22, 2024. She was born on December 31, 1932 in Woodbury, CT to Egbert and Pearl Hallock. Following her graduation from high school, Marion attended Danbury State Teachers College (now Western Connecticut State University). She was teaching elementary school at Calvin Leete School in Guilford when Marion met her future husband, Ronald Rode. They married in 1959 and moved to Linden, NJ where they welcomed three children in the span of six years. After the birth of their third son, Ron and Marion moved to Guilford, CT where Marion began working as a teacher at Laneway Nursery School. After welcoming two more children into the family, Marion took ownership of the school. There, she provided preschool and daycare to and had a positive and lasting impact on countless children in Guilford and surrounding towns until her retirement in 1988.
In 1999, Marion and Ron moved to Clinton, CT where Marion enjoyed spending time at Mercy Center in Madison, socializing with friends, and volunteering with Meals on Wheels. The couple enjoyed their travels to Sweden and Prince Edward Island. Marion will be remembered for her gentle nature, her kindness, and her love of family. Marion is survived by her loving sons Randall Rode and his wife Leslie Lindenauer, Kenneth Rode and his wife MaryAnne, James Rode and his wife Joan Weir, and her loving daughters Sarah Bertolini and her husband Peter, and Rebecca Rode. She is also survived by her grandchildren Leo, Ethan, Rachel, Kass, Emma, Henry, Will, and Evelyn. Marion was predeceased by her husband, Ronald Rode and her sister, Clara Zello.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Women & Family Life in Guilford. Services for Marion will be private.
