Marilyn Ann Mulligan Powers, beloved mother, Grammy and friend, passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday October 30th at the age of 72. Born on November 3, 1951 in New Haven, she was the heart of her family and a beacon of kindness, wisdom, and love.
Marilyn was the daughter of the late Thomas and Damien Sharron Mulligan, born and raised in West Haven. She raised her own family in the Morris Cove section of New Haven and spent her retirement years in Killingworth. Marilyn was an Infectious Disease Fellowship Program Coordinator at Yale University for many years before her retirement. She was affectionately referred to as “Dr. Powers” by her associates and considered her fellows her children. Marilyn had a joyful spirit and a warmth that touched everyone she met. She was a nurturing presence who lived for her family, especially her grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart. She also loved her pets and grand pets to the fullest.
Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Colleen Campion and her husband, Thomas, of Clinton. She was predeceased by her daughter, Meredith Powers Duarte. She leaves behind four cherished grandchildren Aidan and Megan Campion of Clinton, CT and Sean and Shivonne Duarte of Catskill, NY. Marilyn is also survived by her brothers and sister: Thomas Mulligan and his wife, Mary, of Naugatuck, Gary Mulligan and his wife, Kathleen, of Milford and Mary Elizabeth Laub and her husband, Val, of West Haven.
Her strength, warmth, and laughter will remain with us always in the loving memories she has left behind. She will be deeply missed.
Friends and family are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday November 8, 2024 at 11 AM at St Mary's Church of the Visitation, 54 Grove St. Clinton, CT. Burial to follow at Beaver Brook Cemetery in Clinton.
