Albert W. Daniels, Jr., of Clinton, CT, March 15, 1936 to July 25, 2018, beloved teacher and lifetime USCG Auxiliarist, passed from complications due to Parkinson’s aged 82 years. Born and raised in Mamaroneck, NY, and plying the waters of Long Island Sound, he was recruited into the USCG Auxiliary in 1953 at the age of 17, later achieving his Merchant Marine Master’s License in 1957. He attended NYU graduating in 1958, BS Industrial Arts later completing a MA, and taught at Eastchester High School until 1985. Bert joined the Army Reserves in 1959, 4 years later transferred to the Coast Guard, receiving a direct commission as LTJG, retiring as Lieutenant Commander after 21 years in the USCG Reserves. Bert ran the Minneford Yacht Club’s facilities in City Island from 1986 to 1991, and continued private boat handling instruction and deliveries until age 77.
Bert has been the longest continuously serving USCG Auxiliarist in the organization’s history, 65 years, serving in numerous Flotilla and Division Staff and Command positions, primarily in Flotilla 63, now 75 in Mamaroneck NY, later in Flotilla 24-8 Clinton, CT. Bert was recognized for work not only during the critical weeks after 911, but for his work when an airliner went off the runway at LaGuardia Airport in 1989.

Survived by his wife Virginia, daughters Meredith and Jennifer, and granddaughter Kelsey.
Calling Hours will be held on Saturday August 4th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Swan Funeral Home, 80 E. Main St., Clinton, CT. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday August 5th at 1pm in The Church of the Holy Advent, 81 E. Main St., Clinton, CT.
