At the age of two the family moved to Youngstown. Ohio where she received her education. Maxine graduated at the age of sixteen from South High School. She met and married Lorenzo Smith in 1947 and moved to Cleveland, Ohio for a new start. From that union she was blessed with seven loving children. That marriage ended in 1959 and she then met Jodie Jackson whom she married in 1985.
Maxine accepted Christ al an early age and attended church with her parents who were Episcopalian. Upon moving to Cleveland, she changed her profession of faith and was baptized as a Catholic and attended St. Joseph Franciscan Church until their closure. She began attending St Paul Shrine where she served in the church as a Eucharistic Minister, a lector and joined the Secular Franciscan Order. She followed Brother Bob Marva to St Agnes Our lady of Fatima where she was an active member until her passing.
In the 1960's Maxine worked for a foot specialist Dr. Milton Jackson. Soon after, she began working at Forest City Hospital in the Medical Records Department. In 1974 Maxine worked for the Public School System where she was a teacher's assistant in Reading and English classes all while attending Tri-C. She retired from the Cleveland Board of Education in 1990. Maxine decided to stay home, travel and fish, however that only lasted a year before she went to work for a Rehabilitation Center. Maxine soon 100k her talents to Cedarwood Plaza where she worked for 7 ½ years. From there she went and worked at Cityview Nursing Home for another 7 ½ years.
Maxine, affectionately known as "Mommy" or "Mrs. Jackson" retired for good and went on to enjoy many hobbies but her favorite was sending cards. She sent cards for Anniversaries, Birthdays, Holidays and EVERYTHING under the sun. And she was an avid letter writer (If You Know, You Know).
On Thursday April 20th, 2023, Maxine Jackson completed her purpose here on earth and was called to live with the Lord.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents Victor and Mary Herring, her sister Frances Jean Wesson and brother Victor Willard Herring.
Maxine leaves to celebrate her life and legacy Lorelei Smith-Lockett, Maurice Smith, Milton Smith, Brenda Waller. Pamela Smith, Sylvia Smith-Hudson, Theresa Smith (Shun "Shunny Boo") David Jackson and Jodie Rainey (Hiley). 25 Grandchildren, 53 Great Grandchildren. 20 Great Great Grandchildren. Also, a host of nieces, nephews, friends and many many more who loved her and called her "mom" or "nana".
