JoAnn Addie was born to the union of the late Lena Maud and Joseph Roger Addie on July 6, 1941. She was preceded in death by all of her siblings Johnnie (Dorothy),Jimmie (Roger),June,Jeffery, and Jacqueline.
She was baptized and accepted Christ at an early age. As a lifetime member of Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church she served on numerous committees, including the Young Adult Choir, the Food Pantry, and the usher board until her ailing health.
JoAnn attended Cleveland Public Schools and graduated from Collinwood High School. She attended Finn College where she studied Early Childhood Education.
When JoAnn's sister June suffered a stroke and was hospitalized, she became a loving surrogate mom and wonderful blessing to her niece and nephew, RicJunette and Jeffery and raised them with the same care, devotion, love, and heartfelt feelings as their mom.
She worked for the Cleveland Public School system for over 30 years as a Principal Clerk at both East High and later Glenville High School until her retirement in 1997.
JoAnn's Lady of leisure status and love for traveling took her on many extravagant vacations around the world, which included cruising to Aruba, Jamaica, and the Bahamas, as well as many trips to "Vegas" and memorable trips to Disney World with her nieces and nephews, to name a few. Her other pastime activities included bowling for over 20 years with the Wednesday Evening Mixed league, where she served as secretary, cooking much anticipated sweet treats and huge family dinners, and spending time with her nieces and nephews as well as numerous other "adopted children" whom she adored. She could often be found surrounded by at least one of them and spoiling all of them rotten.
JoAnn was a 12-year breast cancer survivor and longtime supporter of many other charities.
JoAnn left this earthly journey for everlasting life with the Lord on Monday, April 18, 2022. Those who will cherish her home going and feel her loss most profoundly are her loving, devoted niece, RicJunette Addie-Carson (Andre'), beloved nephew, Jeffery Addie (Julianne), niece and nephew, Hope Dickerson-Johnson and Roderick Dickerson, great nieces and nephews, Deiidra Brown-Gibson, Brittany Love, Christopher Love, Brandon Addie, Jasmine Addie, AJani Carson, A'June't Carson and D'Wailen Dickerson Orupabo, great-great nephews Eric Henry, Elisha Brown and Eir Gibson, special cousins Aleese Sanders, Kecia Sanders Stewart and Kenya Jackson-Saulters, long-time friend, Josephine Phillips, Godson, Joseph Zellous and a host of other relatives and friends.
