Jerome Mathews

Jerome Mathews, departed this life on July 21, 2023. He was born to George Mathews and Ethel Lee Capers on May 28, 1956. Jerome attended school in Cleveland, Ohio graduating from John Hay High

School. Jerome worked at Richmond Brothers, Ford Motor Company, and Waste Management. In 2000 Jerome became the owner operator of S&E trucking company, running the company until he retired in 2021.

Jerome was father to few, mentor to many and friend to all. He would often advise “if that’s what you want, go get it.” Jerome was a fan of living his best life and was often dressed to impressed. He had a love of food, fishing, roller skating, listening to music, dancing, cars, cooking, and fashion. He often hosted gatherings for family and friends creating many beautiful memories.

Jerome will be mourned by his wife and soul-mate of 25 years, Sue. Their union created a new family consisting of four children, Michael, Marcia (Bobby), Jeremy, and Joi. Jerome was a beloved Papa to nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Jerome was proceeded in death by his father George and brother George Jr., brother in law Reuben and sister in law Loretta.

He is survived by his mother Ethel, his siblings Michael (Myrna), Charles, Doris, Donald (Maritza), Beverly, Marsha, and his siblings in law Gwen, Marie, and Jan (Greg).

Jerome leaves to forever remember him a plethora of family and life-long friends. Many of who he has touched through his job, acts of kindness, his smile, and of course his ribs.

A visitation for Jerome will be held Friday, July 28, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Cummings & Davis Funeral Home, 13201 Euclid Avenue, East Cleveland, Ohio 44112. A wake will occur Saturday, July 29, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM, 13201 Euclid Avenue, East Cleveland, Ohio 44112. A funeral service will occur Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 3:30 PM, 13201 Euclid Avenue, East Cleveland, Ohio 44112. An interment private will occur.
