Sandra Dee Baumal (nee Schultz), “Sandee” age 92, passed away April 25, 2025. She was the loving wife of Alvin “Danny” Baumal (deceased), mother of Wendy Matthews (David) of Bay Village, Ohio, Phil Baumal (Ellen Warm) of Loveland, Ohio, and Murray Baumal (Rena Kirsch) of Cambridge, MA.; grandmother to Megan Howard (Dominic) and Dana Dicks (Sean) and Arlo Baumal; step-grandmother to Rachel and Madelyn Warm; great-grandmother to Madeline and Dean Howard and sister to Elliott J. Schultz (deceased).
Sandee was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio to Robert S. and Lillian Schultz. She was a graduate of Cleveland Heights High School and The Ohio State University where she received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She was confident and adamant that Cleveland was the best place in the world to live. She spent most of her years on Cleveland’s east side, contributing to its rich Jewish community. Her last years were spent in enjoying the care of the wonderful assisted living staff at Rose Senior Living in Avon.
Sandee worked together with her husband Danny at the Cedar Lee Rexall Drug and Campus Drug Pharmacy in Shaker Heights during a dedicated career that spanned over 40 years. She was a fabulous friend and confidante to many, a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother. She also spent a majority of her retirement years volunteering for The Park Synagogue Sisterhood and the American Red Cross Greater Cleveland Chapter.
Sandee was an avid lifelong fan of the Cleveland Indians, Browns and Cavaliers. At 92, she could still name the starting lineup of the 1948 World Champion Cleveland Indians, including the starting pitching rotation. She could name the players based on their batting stance alone.
A voracious reader, Sandee soaked up the Wall Street Journal cover to cover. She knew the importance of being educated and informed. She believed in hand writing letters to the editor, and was duly impressed when she received a response. Character meant everything to her.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 28th, 10:00 a.m., at the Berkowitz-Kumin-Bookatz Memorial Chapel, 1985 S. Taylor Road, Cleveland Heights, Ohio 44118.
