Dear Juli,

As one of Jerry's  graduate students, I am saddened to hear of his passing.  Jerry, for me, was more than an advisor--he helped me navigate a very difficult time of my life, and was in many ways the father I needed.  His patience and concern for my welfare, and the rest of his students, was a tribute to his humanity.

I remember fondly the group parties at your home with your warm generosity, the idyllic summer sessions with Jerry and Helmut Ringsdorf--with my initiation into German wines--and his 'mentoring' of Steve Weinhold and myself into the world of cigars!  I can tell you, despite your wishes, he would smoke the occasional cigar at conferences ;)

And while I am sad to learn of his passing, please know that Jerry made my life so much better and more joyous, as have you.

Dear Geula, Danny and Tali, 
I was deeply saddened to learn of Jerry’s death. Please accept sincere condolences from Nancy and myself. Jerry and I were longtime colleagues in the Department of Macromolecular Science. In recent years, as emeriti faculty, I very much enjoyed my social interactions with him. In addition to our regular brown bag lunches with John Blackwell in Jerry’s office, Jerry and I frequently attended afternoon Cleveland Indians games together, which were enriched by Jerry’s encyclopedic knowledge of baseball. I will miss him greatly.

Dear Geula, Danny and Tali:

I was so sorry to hear that Jerry had passed away.   He was a friend and colleague at Case from the time that Susan and I came to Cleveland in 1969.   He and I were faculty in what became the department of Macromolecular Science, and had a closer relationship because we were in the same field, studying polymer structure by X-ray methods.  He had a national and international reputation in this field, especially for his definitive work on the structure of polyvinylidene fluoride, and multilayer films.  We co-taught a graduate course on X-ray analysis for many years.   In the early days, the department was a big part of our social life, and all the wives knew one another, leading to many enjoyable dinner parties.
In later years Jerry and I, along with another colleague, Alex Jamieson, had frequent brown bag lunches in his office.    These were often very entertaining, discussing current events, politics, etc.   He had a remarkable knowledge of American history and sports, notably baseball.   I know he enjoyed our lunches together, and after he became emeritus I think they were his main reason for coming to campus every day.   
Along with Jack Koenig and Morty Litt, he is third distinguished  faculty member from our group to pass away during this COVID lockdown, and his death is a wrench.    I will miss him.

Many wonderful memories of Jerry and Juli.  Fun dinners together.  Cav's basketball games.  Weekly poker with Jerry and the guys.  He will be missed.  

Dear Geula, Tali and Dan,
I am very sad to learn of Jerry's passing. My memories of Jerry are long-lived. I remember spending time with Jerry and family, for example, in Ft. Lauderdale - Tamarac when you all visited his parents and I visited Goldie, my grandmother. Those were the days! I remember Jerry visiting Atlanta with Geula a few times. One time, Jerry and I enjoyed a cigar and cognac. Funny thing, I wasn't a cigar smoker, but enjoyed the experience being with Jerry! Last but not least, when I was planning to go to college, Jerry said to me, "I can help you get into Case Western Reserve, but, I can't promise you you'll make the grades to stay in". Too funny, but true, he did indeed say this to me.
