Dear Family of Gene London, as I sit hear telling my granddaughter about the times my sister and brother watched the Gene London Show my heart was full.  Mr . London was the greatest story teller that ever lived to us.  His stories about the Golden Fleece had us sitting in front of the TV with our mouthed open just waiting for his every word.  I'm sorry he wasn't around for the kids of today.  They missed out on the greatest story teller that ever lived.  I don't know if anyone in his family will receive this condolence message but I felt compelled to send it.  THANK YOU GENE LONDON FOR THE BEST CHILDHOOD EVER.  LONG LIVE THE GENE LONDON SHOW AND THE GOLDEN FLEECE.  I SURE WOULD HAVE LOVED SHARING THE RERUNS WITH MY GRANDDAUGHTERS.

As a child I attended Summerdale Day Camp and Gene was very good friends with the owners of the camp and their daughter, Diane Brown. 

I was fortunate to be selected to appear on The Gene London Show and one of the children that surrounded him in a particular episode.
The year was 1957 , his sponsor was Mr. Bubble and I was 6 years old. 
I was gaga over him!

Thank you Gene London for teaching me the importance of story telling. I told stories to my children the way you taught me to, so long ago. Now I watch my grown daughter bring a story to life for my 10 month old grandson and I see the same sparkle in his eyes and smile on his adorable little face that you brought to mine and to hers. You certainly left a legacy for so many. May you Rest In Peace. 

As a kid growing up in Philadelphia the Gene London show was a must see for me every week. His voice even sounded like gentleness and kindness. His art seemed so simple to a kid that you thought that you could it too. He made his art so simple looking that you forgot that you were actually watching an artist. As an adult he was easy to pull you in and listen to him as if he really were a friend of yours. We could certainly use him today.

Gene's stories and clear kindnesses were pillars of light to children throughout the Philadelphia area.  We grew up in the era of assassinations, the brutality of the Vietnam War, and much more 60's angst than I care to recall.   Like Mr Rogers Gene was a friend and proof that people could care, listen and offer support.  My love of film was something I inherited from his passion.    Vintage film tells us stories for us to learn rather than suffer through life's more challenging fates.  Gene taught us by his tales and the benevolent and well-managed life he led.  I will miss knowing he is in the world. God Bless You Gene London, God watch over Eugene Norman Yulish.

The word " Important" doesn't come close to describing Gene London's influence on my life. Not just my childhood, but I carry what he did for me  now in my 67th year.  I lived in a house with alcoholic parents who would frequently dish out beatings. It was not unusual to be hit by the nuns and priests in school, And on the streets where I lived I often felt fearful,  It may not have as bad as I'm describing but it felt that was as a little kid. I was scared all the time.  EXCEPT when I turn on Gene London. He was so kind and gentle and sincere. He made me feel safe .  And he made me feel valuable, I could go on, but it's enough to say...I Loved Gene London.  RIP Gene

My sympathies to the family. I have so many fond memories of watching Gene London as a child, all the way through my teenage years. He was such a magical storyteller, fueling the imagination of so many children throughout the years. When I was about 6 or 7,  there was an abandoned house nearby; we dubbed it “Quigley Mansion”, and made up all kinds of stories about it. I believe I even wrote Mr. London a fan letter about it when I was older.  He was a special, magical person who will be truly missed.

As a kid growing up in Philadelphia, watching Cartoon Corners and the Gene London Show, was a top priority for me, even when I didn't know it. Gene was THE  genuine article, with all of his great talents. I believe his greatest talent was his ability to CONNECT with his audience. Riveting is another word that comes to mind, with respect to his many talents, especially drawing.  I also remember Gene instructing the kids in the TV audience the fine art of pilates exercises. He must have been a pioneer as he incorporated them into his show, daily. What a true treasure Gene was. I thank God for allowing me the opportunity to "grow up" with Gene in Philadelphia. Most sincere condolences. I watched Gene as a kid in Philly every Saturday and loved his show. It was always kind-hearted and inspiring. Also loved to watch him draw on the show. All of Philadelphia loved him. 

We have lost a treasure. RIP, Gene...you will never be forgotten by an entire generation of people you helped raise.

I have loved Gene London since I was a little girl. One day when I was about nine years old I pretended that I had a stomach ache so I could stay home from school. What I did not know was Gene was scheduled to make a surprise visit at my school that day (Walt Disney Elementary School) and because I chose to play hooky I missed him. I cried for days! Thankfully in 2001 I had the pleasure of meeting him at one of his shows in Philadelphia and he was a blast! He spent about an hour with my husband and I and was kind enough to draw a picture of me the way he used to do on the show. He was truly one of the nicest people that I have ever met.  RIP Gene.

Gene has been an important part of my childhood. My dream of meeting him came true in September 2019--a dream I had for 56 years. We became fast friends, and I cherish every moment we had together. I was a child when I became a fan then a HUGE FAN of Gene London!.. I never missed watching  Cartoon Corners General Store!.. He was a Warm .. Kind  Amazing “Gentle” person .. who I greatly looked up too!  I still can sing  the opening song to His show pushing his broom !!!!.. Mr London would sing  and speak so sweetly ( I felt to me) and would sketch !!.. oh I LOVED IT ALL and I had such affection and warm regard  for Mr London throughout my life!.. The. next time was 2 years later and I was 4, when Gene made an appearance at an opening of a McDonald’s, also in Vineland. Several years later, in 1985, I stumbled across Gene again. I was working on a kids video fashion show for the children’s wear trade, and found him in the ol’ yellow pages when looking for fashion show producers. We spoke only on the phone. We crossed paths again when I was living in. Manhattan at 23rd and 7th Ave in 1999. I was with my son, Max, pushing him in a stroller down 24th St, and just happened to see Gene’s wardrobe shop. I walked in and Gene and I spoke. Max was about 3 at the time, and I’m glad he got to meet Gene, too. The last time I saw Gene was this summer at one of his exhibitions in Atlantic City. It was special. Gene spoke to the visitors and I learned all about Gene’s parents. I had known nothing about his past and that Gene, like me, was a first generation American, son of Jewish immigrants. I was so impressed that Gene was sharp as a tack, and still had the class, talent, kindness and awesome storytelling skills. We spoke about politics (both of us are were very vocal amd in the same page. I was touched when Gene said we were mispucha (family). I videotaped most of his presentation. I’m so glad that I didn’t miss that last opportunity to spend some time with this very special and gifted man. Rest in peace, Gene.

I am sorry to hear of Gene's passing. He was a big part of my childhood memories on Saturday mornings with his Cartoon Corner's show on WCAU -10!
He taught us kindness, creativity, and friendship and made us all imagine with his "Let's Pretend" segment. When the movie Frozen came out, i recalled his story of the "Snow Queen" and how he made it  come to life through his art work and story telling and imagination. He was our Mr. Rogers of the 60's! This is missing today for our grandchildren as this world of reality TV is terrible. 
Gene -Rest in Peace and Thank You for all you gave to us -your children of Baby Boom generation. We are forever grateful!

I’m so sorry to hear about Gene. I had the great pleasure of meeting him during his costume exhibition in Allentown just a month ago.  He was so gracious and interesting. We spoke about our love of Jeanette MacDonald and because he liked her photo on my phone I printed it and sent it to him. I hope he was able to enjoy it. I will always remember the great joy he gave us.

Gene, this “little girl” idolized you.  I became a teacher, and I would tell stories to the children trying to capture your expression and voices. I often wished I could draw like you, because watching your drawings capture the story you told was captivating. To this day I begin story time in kindergarten with the Let’s Pretend song. I miss you already, as I followed your career.  Thank you for touching my life.  ❤️❤️❤️

I watched Mr. Gene London every week as a child as most did.  My best memories were of Quigley Mansion and his story telling that would take me away from this world into a wonderful one.  You see I was an sexually abused child, but I always knew that when it came to Saturday morning, just listening to his stories, I could travel to that magical place where I was happy.  I hoped he would know what a difference he made in a child’s life, especially mine.  I will always be grateful for that time with him and he will dearly be missed.  God Bless You Mr. Gene London 🙏

He was a large part of my young age.  Loved seeing him on my small TV I saw his collection on TV some yrs ago.  May his soul rest in peace.  My sympathy to his husband and the rest of his family.

Gene London, may you rest in peace. What a wonderful role model you were ... and a wonderful man who entertained us for hours and hours every week of our childhoods. Philly kids had an amazing array of television companions: Gene, Sally Starr, Chief Halftown, Bertie the Bunyip ... I would love to see some of the old shows today. And what a great collection Gene amassed of Hollywood costumes! As a classic film enthusiast, I appreciate his keeping the spotlight on the greats like Adrian and Edith Head. What a blessing this man was in so many ways. My heart goes out to his personal friends and family. 

My memories of Gene London are special and no one could ever replace him.  Watching him draw as a child was mesmerizing.  His magical Golden Fleece gave me much comfort.  Gene's stories caught my attention when I did a lot of daydreaming.  My fondest of memories were Captain Kangaroo, Gene London, and Sally Starr, such wholesome, imaginative entertainment.  My heart is broken that we were supposed to meet in Allentown at his show but it was a conflict near Christmas. He had such lovely costumes with rich history.  We planned to meet at his next show.  Whenever I texted him a message, he was so prompt with a return.  He made me feel alive as a child and he made me feel appreciated as a fan.  I'm so sorry for your loss, a horrendous loss for all of us in the Philly area.  It would be wonderful if you could do a memorial in the Spring here so his fans could remember him fondly.  Thanks for the warmth, comfort, fun, and inspiration you gave all of us.  My appreciation and love always, a once little girl comforted by you, your artistic ability, and your gift of stories. Gene, Thank you for the wonderful memories I have that were spent with you every Saturday morning for many years. You were such a great storyteller and artist, but what I admire about you the most is the warmth and kindness you exuded through the television screen. Some of my happiest childhood memories are of watching your show. May you Rest In Peace with God and the angels.

Here in Philadelphia, my Facebook page is full of tributes to our beloved Gene London. He was truly loved by an entire generation. So much more than an entertainer, his gentle, calming presence soothed our souls and taught us that a man could be nurturing and kind. Gene’s memory will always be a blessing to me. I was lucky to be the right age at the right time.

I am so, so sorry to learn of Gene London's (Yulish) recent passing.  Gene and his show, "Cartoon Corners General Store", on a local Philadelphia TV channel were so important to me growing up in the 60s.  Every Saturday morning I would sit enthralled by Gene, his artwork and his stories.  He was such a kind and gentle soul.  I use to try and copy his artwork that he would do on the show.  In fact, I majored in Art in high school and still do pastel & acrylic paintings due to Gene's influenence.  My heart goes out to his husband, John, and his family.  God bless you, Gene, and thank you for all the good memories. ❤

Gene London was one of my childhood heroes. He created a space with plenty of room for kids to dream big. He was funny, playful, creative and kind. The world was enriched by his many gifts.  I loved him so much!

I have VERY fond memories of Gene London and Cartoon Corners General Store.  The theme song still rings clear in my mind. I was thrilled to meet Gene London in March 2015.
Gene and John were both at The Philadelphia Flower Shower .
The highlight of the show was Gene London and his costume 
collection.
He was so gracious and so very enthusiastic in meeting his fans 
from the 1950's and 1960's.  He did not have a very comfortable stool to sit on as he greeted lines of 55-60ish year-olds!  But you would never have know it !  A smile , a handshake and a hug.
The costume display was gorgeous and well presented . I have a 
 wonderful memory of a talented, kind and handsome man.
Gene London brought joy to all through out his 80 years.

Hi I watched Gene  London and all of the great actors who were here in The Delaware Valley TV. I host an entertainment radio show here in Atlantic City NJ. I have had Gene on my show 4 times over the past couple years. Always Loved watching him growing up such a warm gentle man. I got to meet him last summer here In Atlantic City. It was great Prayers for his husband John and his family. I would be willing to bet that Pixanne Chief Halftown And Sally Starr Happy The Clown Uncle Pete Boyle Wee Willie Weber And Captain Noah Met Him  At The Pearly Gates. He Will Be Missed Always Remember To Pretend Jim And Joanne Craine

As a baby boomer who was born in 1959 and resided in Philadelphia, PA i recall with great fondness viewing Mr. London on Saturday mornings.  He was a friend. He made us laugh and think. He will be sorely missed. Pursuant to custom, i shall learn additional Torah for the niftar during the sholshim and will arrange for Kaddish to be recited for the eleven months., bli neder. It is the least I can do for someone who gave me so much pleasure. My condolences to Mr. London's husband. and family. Heaven should succor and sustain them. I'm sure Mr. London is overseeing the Heavenly Cartoon Corners General Store. The neshama should have an aliya and reside in eternal bliss in Gan eden.

I can’t tell you how very sad I am knowing that Mr. London has passed . He was an amazing part of so many children’s lives as they grew up in the Delaware Valley with his tv show .  I recently had a conversation with him before the holidays regarding his show of collection  .  Rest In Peace Mr. London .  You will be incredibly missed.

I grew up in Philly.  Always watched Gene and I loved him and the show. Such a gentle , kind soul. I saw his collection of clothing at a casino in Atlantic City many years ago. I have wonderful fond  memories of watching the show, watching him draw. I still know the song! RIP Gene. You brought happiness to so many of us as children. More than you know. Kids don’t have these wonderful role models today. They are missing out.  Love and peace.

I am a Radio Show Host on 92.1 FM in the Vineland Area of NJ. I am from Philadelphia and had the pleasure of watching Gene on TV when I was a child. It was my favorite show and I loved him so much.  I had the pleasure of meeting him in July and having him call in as my guest twice on my Radio Show. He just called in this November. It was my wish come true to finally meet Gene. He was a wonderful, gentle,  kind person.  He was one of our Angels on Earth so I know there is no doubt that he is in heaven. ❤️
We will miss you so. Condolences to Gene’s family & think of all of the good times. You were so lucky to have him in your life.🌹

Gene London was my favorite TV personality when I was a little girl.  He seemed so kind and approachable.  This photo is from the early 1960s, on the day that I visited the show with my older sister's Brownie troop.  You can see how excited I am, holding Gene's picture and my autograph book.   This is the effect that Gene had on the children that loved him and his show.    RIP to a fine performer and a talented man.

My 2 favorite memories of Gene London are meeting him at a GE Family "Carnival in Southwest Philadelphia. My dad worked at GE and held me on his shoulders to see Gene better and maybe get closer to saying hello. The second is the pair of "slippers" for Fathers' Day that Gene taught us how to make ( I was probably 5 or 6 -now going on 59). When my dad passed in 2003, these "slippers" were still in the bottom drawer of the dresser. Gene London holds such a special place in my heart, much love and regards to his family in this sad time. 

As a Gay child growing up in the Greater Philadelphia area Gene was a bright light that brought me never ending joy.  He taught us a to be nice and kind and caring.  The world could use so many more Gene Londons.  Gene you are so missed.  :(

I was deeply saddened about your passing as many of us are. You were such a wonderful part of my life. As a child I wanted to draw like you. I asked for an easel for my birthday and received a wooden one equipped with roll top paper, chalks and pencils. I was in my glory. I watched you all the time always looking forward to the next time we were “together”! I sing and hum the let’s pretend song even though I’ll be 63. You were a kind, gentle, talented, and generous man who lived an honorable life.  All your dreams came true! I will remember you with love and fondness for all my days. I am one of the thousands of children in the Philadelphia area who could not  wait for the Gene London show to come on. He was such a gentle, artistic man and memories of that show stay with me now.   What a privilege to have watched him. My condolences in his passing and my joy that this man touched so many lives.

I grew up watching Gene from a Philadelphia channel.  I remember his gentleness and his cartoon drawings.  He was fun to watch as he drew while telling you a story.  Such a talented person.  I'm a 75 year old grandmom now and I remember him always being so handsome.  My condolences to his family.

Good Morning! Please accept my sincerest condolences on Gene's passing. 

      I am one of those kids that LOVED watching Gene and his show! My sister and I grew up with him and couldn't wait for his show to come on. 

      I am so saddened to learn of his passing but look forward to again seeing him in a better place when even I get there. 

     Thank you for sharing him with us....Gene was a wonderful person and one that will be surely missed by all that knew him.

I was born in Cleveland and youngest childhood memory was getting dressed up and my folks took us to chagrin falls country club for lunch and gene came around to each kid .... moved to Berwyn 1969 and was so happy he moved too . What a kind sweet man ... you will certainly Rest In Peace 🙏

I watched and remember so very fondly, the Gene London show and Cartoon Corners. Mr. London was a favorite of mine and remember the kindness he shared with all.

So sad to hear my favorite childhood superstar is gone. But my memories of him , his stories and drawings will always stay with me. He had such a sweet gentle soul I know that is why he is so loved by so many children. Rest In Peace Gene London entertain the children in heaven.

My fondest memory was when I was 8 years old at the Philly Mummers Parade on South Broad street. Mr London put the microphone in front of me and suddenly I became a ham! My love for art was my interest in his show and i always watched. He was such a nice person you just had to love him!

Gene London was a rare and gifted individual who inspired us kids with his imagination and creativity. 

I can go to the "Land of Let's Pretend" any time I want, through my memories of Gene and his show.

He told the stories so realistically and then his drawing just added so much to it.
We loved getting up early to catch him, and started our Saturday morning cartoon routine, when there were the real cartoons not comercial cartoons to sell stuff.

I was a young child in an abusive household with a stepfather who enjoyed tormenting me on a daily basis.  Life was hell, no other words.  For a child as young as I was, the world was ugly and mean.  Then I found this soft spoken young man on Saturday mornings, and my escape started.  Every Saturday, this kind, gentle man would embrace those kids, make them feel special, make them feel loved.  My hero he became.  For one hour on Saturdays, I knew the world was pretty, loving and kind.  Gene London did that for me.  He brought love, compassion and light to my young life for just an hour.  I will be eternally grateful to him.  May his memories surround his family with peace and comfort.  Rest well my hero.  

I grew up in Philadelphia watching all the childhood icons. Gene London was no exception. He used entertainment to make learning fun.  Everyone loved him.  He will always be a Philly guy. He was in the Thanksgiving parade couldn't wait to see him.
Too bad the generation of kids who followed  have missed out on such a great experience. 
He was loved by all. Rest in peace. 

I was fortunate to be able to grow up watching Gene London tell his enchanting stories and draw his fabulous pictures. He holds a special place in my memories.  He was so talented. 

So sad to hear that this wonderful person has passed. At 60 I can still remember his show and the awe I felt every time he would draw while telling a story. I will never forget! Thank you Gene for one of my wonderful childhood memories. God bless

Our Brownie Troop  was on his show in the early 60’s .  It was a wonderful experience.. one I’ve never forgotten... you  made many young kids very happy . Rest in peace

As a pre-teen, Saturday mornings in my house were not complete without a visit to Cartoon Corner's General Store and a look at whatever Gene London was drawing that day.  As more and more of the people that entertained and informed me on  black and white television  in those days are leaving us,  there are fewer and fewer touchstones to childhood.  Rest in Peace, Eugene.  You had a greater impact on more "younger Boomers" in the Philadelphia area than you'll ever know.  

My sister, brother and I were taken to a filming of the Gene London show.  I was enthralled at 7 years of age by Gene, the Golden Fleece, the stories and the whole show.  At the end of the show, they picked my little brother to put a "pie" in Gene's face.  Being rather quiet for a 5 year old, I guess they figured he'd be gentle.  Well, he got up there and really smashed that pie in Mr. London's face!  It was in his nose, his ears and everywhere!  The look of surprise on Gene's face showed how astonished he was!  We watched every Saturday glued to the TV set!  Thank you for all the happy memories! My sympathies to the family - May you Rest in Peace - you've become someone's guardian angel!!


Thank You Gene London for the priceless childhood memories I have of watching each and every show. I never had the opportunity to meet you in person but I did belong to your fan club and loved you like you were a member of my family.  Your show enhanced the lives of so many children who are forever grateful for the experience.  My condolences to your dear family and to everyone like myself who knew and love you.  And when the story is over and when we reach the end....may we too leave this earth a better place. Your spirit and light are eternal.....

I watched Gene every Saturday morning as a child.  I was so glad to have met him and to see him again recently in Allentown.  He knew he was my mentor in how to teach art to children. (I taught Art for over 30 years).  He was as kind and gentle in real life as he appeared on TV.  Rest in Peace, Gene....Many , many of us loved you!


Gene London was an early inspiration of kindness and friendship and creativity for me.  I hope he had a wonderful life  

What a contribution he made to children for so many years. I was one of the children that was lucky enough to be on his show. It was such a big deal that my grandmother made me a new dress for such a cool opportunity. When we were around him we felt safe and loved. He will be missed . He made such a difference to all of us . Very sad.

I was one of the thousands of children who grew up watching Gene London.  He was and will always be my hero.  Gene was an angel on earth and I thank him for the countless childhood memories.  He was a role model for me and made me feel both comfortable and confident in the person I was while growing up.  My condolences to his husband and family.  Please know that I and thousands of others who grew up watching this amazing man share in your loss.  He was truly a gift!

I guess the fact that at 64 I still know every word to “Cartoon Corners” and “Let’s Pretend That It’s Storytime” speaks to the impact that this man had on my early life. Rest easy Gene London. May your memory be for a blessing.  

I cant begin to tell Gene’s family how sincerely sorry I am of his passing. As a  child like so many others I adored Gene. Some of us, like me, for a brief hour were taken to another place. The world of make pretend. The reality of life was sometimes hard, even as a child . I can’t thank him enough for his gentle nature that captured my heart. I knew that the world held people that were kind and caring.  I have thought o f him often over all these years,  I would catch a glimpse of him on the internet and I could still see this lovely man I knew as a child. My heart is heavy today, but I pray Gene is resting in Gods arms after a lifetime of of healing people like me.
