I owe my life to Dr. Saul Genuth. I saw him for a long time from when I was very young (diagnosed at 17 months with TT1D). He was so knowledgeable and kind. I feel fortunate to have been under the care of such a legend.

Saul and Molly were our best childhood friends. I entered Kindergarten with Molly and first met Saul in the seventh grade at
Woodberry School and actually introduced Saul to Molly. We are
severely saddened by the knowledge of their passing. 

It is with sadness that I learned of the death of Dr. Genuth in July 2020.  I was his office manager 1994-1999.  I learned much about his diabetic research and other endocrine diseases.  He expected much learning from myself and medical residents.  During the passing years, I thought of him and the DCCT and EDIC research he facilitated with his colleagues.  May you be comforted with memories of his life and work.

Saul Genuth was part of our family from the time our daughter was diagnosed with diabetes at 21 months old (1974) and then one of our sons at 9 years old  (1977) was also diagnosed with diabetes.  Dr. Genuth took tender, loving, care of these children and our family.  It was so amazing to see Denise climb up Dr. Genuth’ s office shelves, touch his awards and chatter during the appointments  and the famous doctor that he was, stay so patient. You could see his adoration for this child who is now the mother of an 18 year old daughter and 16 year old son.  Our son who has diabetes is also the father of two children, a daughter 19 and a son 17.  What a testimonial to Dr. Saul Genuth!

My condolences to Dr. Genuth's family on the loss of such a great man. I can truthfully say that Dr. Genuth was instrumental with saving my life. 

I first met Dr. Genuth in the fall of 1985 a few months after being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. I was 33 and had found out about the DCCT study through my mother in law who saw an ad in the newspaper. After months of qualifying tests, I had to wait for a year to pass after my diagnosis to enter the study, I was randomized into the experimental group and Dr. Genuth became my lead contact with the DCCT study. As that meant monthly visits to the hospital we got to spend quite a bit of time together.

Additionally, every Sunday night for 7 years he would call me to review my week in what seemed excruciating detail. What he taught me was powerful. He taught me that I could live a normal life and that with some adjustment I would be able control my disease and live a quality life. He made me want to try harder every week, even when I didn't want to answer the phone! 

Dr. Genuth and I kept in touch occasionally over the years as he continued his important work and I continued as an EDIC patient.  He was a loving caring man dedicated to his patients and his work. I can not thank him enough for what he did to help me and what what he has done for the whole diabetic community worldwide.  

He will be missed by all,
