I walk past our old Superior  law office often.  Miss you so much my friend!

Miss you buddy. I think about  you and our fun times a lot!

Hard to believe it has been 2 years.  I think about David almost every day and miss our daily phone calls.  

I miss a lot of things about David, however one really stands out: Smelling  David's cologne on my clothes after he has left the room.  He always had way too much!!!!

A year!  I think about you every day and miss you terribly. Rest in peace my brother. 

David was taken from us way to soon... his memory will live on in those who love and miss him.

David and I knew each other for over 30 years and I, like many in the trade, considered him a true friend. I will miss his friendship, advice and smile. I appreciate that we were allowed to have him around for so long. 

I hope the family finds some comfort knowing that David was the man we all hoped to one day become.

Laurie and I are so sorry to hear of David's passing.  David always was such a welcoming force at the events that I used to enjoy his company at.  I will always remember his brilliant smile and his concern for everyone else's well being.  David will be missed greatly.

I will never forget when Mr. Silk came to visit Britney at school and invited me to get ice cream with them during our freshman year. I had so many questions about England and his job and he cheerfully answered all of them. He was such a bright light to be around. My thoughts and prayers are with the Silk family. I love you Britney! Me and the roommates are always here for you. 

David, you are a real inspiration to others. The world was a better place with your voice and advocacy.  RIP. You will be missed but definitely not forgotten.

Thank you for our friendship and professional relationship.  You brought to the fold a unique independence and humor to the hourly grind required in our profession, all of which spiced dignity to daily life.  

I remember with fondness, laughter and a sense of wonderment our professional endeavors. You were the first Barrister and the last I have ever known; and, I am proud to call you my colleague. 

Your mentorship in Immigration Law and afternoon tea magically/remotely placed me all over the world.  Your instinct and advice were “spot on.”  I learned a new vernacular spiced with British humor.  Bust most of all, I learned a beautiful vision of life on earth, i.e., you, aka David Silk.

I am happy you are no longer suffering an illness, and I am heartbroken and missing my friend.  I will remember 23 years of David Silk on earth with a smile on my face and laughter and joy from my heart.

A unique, creative, wonderful, marvelous, and joyous filled existence on this earth has gone.  This wonderment has traveled to another universe of light, love and laughter.  You have deployed upward and beyond to a greater and more spectacular divine experience.

David was a friend and a trusted advisor for the past 25 years.

He was one of the most positive people I've had the good fortune to know.  David was always available to assist whether the project was large or small, he made a difference.

He will be sorely missed and never forgotten.

I have know David since 1995, both personally and professionally.

He was one of the most positive people I have ever known. I will never forget how much he assisted me over the years..

David was my very good friend and business colleague. He will be sorely missed by his many friends, associates and acquaintances on both sides of the Atlantic. He was knowledge, patience and kindness personified. 

I will miss him personally, both for his huge help in my setting up a business in Ohio and for his ongoing business and legal advice. He was a man of great humour and historical knowledge and it was always amusing when he broke off suddenly, e.g. to exchange pictures and witty comments on his phone with Brittany, only to return to our talk of Bosworth Field, the Plantagenets or Silbury Hill. Our conversations would always go well beyond the original business purpose. I shall miss him greatly.  

I feel quite inadequate to express proper words here but must simply say that my thoughts are with the family I never met in more than name – Shari, his wife, and his children, Justin, Alexander and Brittany. I send them all my deepest condolences and I wish them all the very best possible for the future. I hope one day to meet them all...

David was a leading figure in the Cleveland international community, and a tireless advocate for more international engagement and exchange.  He shared his British culture and contacts generously/ He served as a strong bridge between this country and the United Kingdom, both personally and professionally.  

David was a tremendously dedicated member of the board of directors of the Cleveland Council on World Affairs (CCWA), where he shared not only his professional time and talents, but also his wonderful sense of fun. Our best memories of David are his times at the microphone as MC for one of our Global Gauntlet programs and some of our private social gatherings. He was CCWA's Master of Ceremonies Extraordinaire, a title officially bestowed upon him in December 2019 at one such gathering.  

We honor here a true and dear friend, a committed internationalist, a great professional and an extremely gracious and generous man. He will be deeply and greatly missed, and always thanked for the many gifts of time, dedication, fun and laughter he gave to all of us in his CCWA family.

I am so saddened to hear that dear David has left us. I first met him in 1969 when we were both at The City of London School. We struck up a friendship and  our mutual theatrical interests led us to appear together in the school's production of "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead" alongside Jonathan Sackier, Martin Ward and a host of others talented young actors. David was Hamlet and I was Polonius.I asked him if he would "walk out of the air, my lord?" His response was  to stab me behind the curtain and call me a rat, but I forgave him for that a long time ago. 
Sad to say we lost contact  when we left school in 1975. That was 45 years ago, a lifetime, and yet I still remember and cherish his lovely sense of humour and that slightly crooked, ever so endearing smile. God bless you David now that you have walked out of the air. "Fare you well, my lord."


We are all so saddened to hear of David's passing.  What an extraordinary human being.  He was energetic, learned, and thoughtful who possessed a truly radiant smile and stately voice.  He will be sorely missed.

David has been a close friend and colleague for the past 18 years.  We enjoyed collaborating on cases related to immigration and discussing other common civic interests.  David was always ready to take up new challenges and never backed away from a difficult issue or case.  He was a tireless and passionate advocate of his clients. 
David was always ready to help in any way he could, whether it was a kind word, reassurances, encouragement.  His laughter was infectious and he had this great sense of (British) humor.  I will truly miss our collaborations over a cup of tea.  
Rest comfortably my dear friend your immense sufferings over the past 4 months are now over.


David will truly be missed.  He and I go way back and shared our interests in international matters.  We saw each other at just about every international law and international relations events in Cleveland. He was a true scholar, great lawyer and cheerful addition to all the events and meetings.  He served as MC for CCWA's World Quest Night and for the Northeast Ohio International Business Network's board Holiday parties.  He was magnificent in all these roles.  Also, he was a true information technology expert.  A wonderful friend.
David, it has been a pleasure and honor to know and work with you.

You have my prayers for David and the family.  What a wonderful, articulate, smart and genuinely humorous man.  I always looked forward to seeing him at CCWA events.  His role as emcee of the Global Trivia night won't be matched.  We will miss him.

I have loved David's humor and good grace for many decades. I shared his commitment to strengthening international ties, both business and social. I will miss his charm and wit.

On behalf of the Cleveland Council on World Affairs, we extend our condolences to David's family.  He was a long-time CCWA Bd. member who we all loved and admired.  He was energetic, enthusiastic, engaging, smart, and funny.  He will remain forever in our memories.  


David was a dear, dear friend. From the day we first met at City of London School all those years ago he was always there for me. A wise, gentle and totally decent man. As much as he was a huge and loyal supporter, I truly valued his sincere laughter, wisdom and sanguine good sense  which shone through and his commitment to good causes was an inspiration. To his family, I wish you long life and peace in this time of grief. 

 When we were at school he worked with me on a play, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. He played Hamlet, that's him back row, second from left. Now cracks a noble heart. Goodnight sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to your rest.  I will miss you every day that follows David. 

So hard to believe that David - Mr Seealk, as I used to call him from our days at school - is gone; I wish I didn't have to believe it.  We met in 1969 when we both started attending the City of London School. We hit it off immediately, as I remember, and started spending time out of school as well, he often coming to our house, I to his (not far away). We always remembered each other's phone numbers, as we were reminding each other not long ago. (His was 788-5144. Not the most useful item of information to carry around, but it has nostalgic value.) At that point he wanted to be a doctor, and used to express firm opinions on all things medical, often starting with the phrase: 'We doctors think'... After school, we saw each other a bit, but then drifted apart, as schoolfriends do. Then, some years ago, I was in Cleveland, giving a concert (I'm a cellist); a man with a strangely familiar face came up afterwards, and asked if I knew who he was. I looked at him. Then simultaneously, I cried out: 'Mr Seealk', and he burst into deafeningly loud laughter. After that we never lost touch, seeing each other both on the rare occasions I was in Cleveland or Oberlin, or sometimes in London. After the death of my wife Pauline in 2010,  David truly took my son Gabriel under his wing; it's almost  impossible to describe how kind he was to him, even before they met: getting him a summer job, then when Gabriel wanted to start a company,  giving him endless (free) legal advice - and friendship. He had such an amazing heart; we hadn't talked for a while, until I heard from our mutual friend (also from school) Jonathan Sackier that he was very ill. I called him immediately, and we talked often. He did tell me about his illness, but far preferred to talk about what was going in his friends' lives. A wonderful, extraordinary human being - the soul of kindness. 

David was the first person I met when I moved to Cleveland and from that moment on he became my close friend and soon to be business partner for 17 years.  We traveled the world together making a name for ourselves and lasting friendships .

To those who knew David, he was a  bon vivant, historian, linguist, noted attorney and business person who had a quick and dry sense of humor, always at the ready with a quip and a laugh. He was the essence of the true British gentlemen!  

His love of his native Country,  adopted home in the US and family were evident to all who knew him. But most importantly, he will be remembered for his kindness to friends and strangers alike; and his willingness to help those in need.

Not just my best friend but my brother.  So many memories, so many adventures, so many heart to heart's.  I will miss you buddy: the joy you brought to me and our family, the emotional support you gave in the hard times, the love and admiration our family had for you, our Friday night dinners and Saturday afternoon tea with McVitties chocolate digestives.  

We are so glad you were able to come to Toronto with us to celebrate Rosh Hashana last year.  You will always be family, we will always love you and revere your memory.  I know you are up there studying the Roman empire's influence on the establishment of England, reading, reading and reading and researching every possible tech gadget available on the planet. 

Know I will say Kaddush for you every year for the rest of my life.  

Wishing you eternal peace and an endless supply of Cadbury Flake. 

 I remember going home to Cleveland one weekend with Britney, we were going to the CAVS game. We walked into her house, both of her parents with open arms (and of course cookies on the kitchen table). Immediately I picked up on David's accent and turned to Britney "why have you never mentioned this before?" She laughed, as I continued to interrogate David about his accent. 

Although this was the only time I met David, I know how much he meant to Britney and his whole family. Sending all of my love and hugs to the Silk family during this time. 

May his memory forever be a blessing 

On behalf of Nik, Gary & Scott and everyone at UK International Soccer, we would like to send our deepest condolences to David's family. We know this is an incredibly difficult time and we are so sorry for your loss. 
We knew David for many years as he worked with our organization in an immigration capacity. During that time David became a personal friend and as fellow Brits we shared many common traits and of course the British humor. 
David left us all far too soon and we know he will be missed by so many. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you - Shari, Justin, Alexander and Britney.

David entertained us at our Wedding as a Co Master Of Ceremonies with his wit, articulate British jargon and jest as well as his kindness blessing the event. He was a dapper and lively brother in law and cared about Judaism and commitment to his children. He will be missed .
