I'm so sorry Carlee. I know you struggled.  My favorite memory of you is seeing you on the bus years after high school. You seemed happier back then. Telling you about my kids and just catching up. You told me about your art and other things. Praying for your family and my church is lifting everyone up in prayer for god's comfort and peace.

I have so many cherished memories of playing hard and being feisty and bossy together with Carlee when we were little. She was an incredible person and I'm grateful to get to learn more about who she was from her friends and family, especially her bat mitzvah. My heart breaks for this loss. 

I am in a brass band, and we played "This Little Light of Mine ," for Carlee, outside in downtown Olympia on Thursday night.

It was so moving to be at today's service to see and hear such profound insights and stories from everyone who knew and loved Carlee and how much she touched and changed the people she met and loved in turn.  I will always remember her honesty, courage, independence, and desire to live life on her own terms.  Maya Angelou wrote that, 'A great soul never dies' and that is certainly true of Carlee Grace.

I was greatly moved by this morning's service.  Carlee's story, gently told by  many who knew her well and cared about her, was both sad and remarkable. I hope you will find comfort in the love and support of those who surround you now, and in your memories. I am very sorry for your loss.

Everyone's deep and abiding love for Carlee speaks volumes about what a special person she was.  Wishing you all comfort and healing.

Carlee was an important person in our lives before her family moved away from Washington state.  Our daughters met in daycare when they were four years old.  She was serious, funny, friendly, smart, full of life and energy, intense, and....she fit right in to our household.  We had many wonderful times making costumes, playing music and dancing, cooking and eating, laughing and talking.  Our families were all over each other for years.  Because of Carlee, Vicki, and Beth, we decided to go the same route they did and adopted our newborn son in 2000.  Carlee fell in love with him on sight and our bond with her transformed and we were even closer.  Without Carlee, we would not have him.  Carlee gave us all the opportunity to have a deep and unvarnished encounter with all that's truest about the human condition, and to learn by her example to try as hard as we can to play the hand that life has dealt to each of us.  My heart goes out to her family, and especially to Vicki and Beth who were always deeply loving to us and to our own kids, and with whom we shared too many conversations and exchanges of emotion for me ever to count.  I wish I could be there with you in person to laugh and cry, cook and eat,  hug and share memories and all the wonderings of the unknowable that wash over us.  Deepest love to you all.

I have not attended, and cannot imagine, a more evocative, tender, loving, moving service.  She remains so vividly alive in the memories just shared.   I am so very sorry for her tragic loss.

We are heartbroken for everyone who loved Carlee, who tried to hold gently her incandescent outraged hurt heart, to grapple with her fierce restless intellect. I wish we could be there in person with all her family and all her friends today, to embrace one another's grief now and to celebrate all her joys and all her complexity. My thoughts and prayers and condolences to the family and friends of Carlee. She was a friend to my son Dj Jimmy Mac who was killed in a wrong way car crash 2020. She came and stayed at my house with me for a few weeks before we were able to get her into a facility in Younstown. This is so heartbreaking.. May She Rest In Peace
