Steven Russell Thomas, 57, of Winston-Salem slipped through heaven’s gate on July 9, 2017 to join his loved ones who have gone on before him. He was born February 16, 1960 in Chattanooga, TN to Donald Lemar and Peggy Lowry Thomas. Steve graduated from Central High School and attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He was a manager with Moore’s Building Supply and later became Senior Sales Representative with Smith-Phillips Building Supply. He was a member of Burkhead United Methodist Church and served his community by volunteering with Meals on Wheels and working with Habitat for Humanity. Steve enjoyed boating, family time at the lake and was an avid music and film enthusiast. He had a strong affection for animals. Steve adored his family, he thoroughly enjoyed his career and his customers, he cherished his friends, neighbors and he valued his strong faith in God. He was preceded in death by his father in 2007. Surviving are his mother, of Chattanooga; his wife, Jo Armour Thomas; a son, Zach Thomas (Melissa), a granddaughter, Emma Jane Thomas,; a brother, Mike Thomas; a sister, Angie Thomas Beahm; his mother-in-law, Carol Jefcoat Evans; and his father-in-law, C. Sam Armour. A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday at Burkhead United Methodist Church with Dr. Carl Manuel and Rev. Elizabeth Graves officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:30 am at the church prior to the service. Memorials may be made in his honor to Meals on Wheels, 2895 Shorefair Drive, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27105, The Forsyth Humane Society, 4881 Country Club Road, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27104 or to the Kate B.
