Winston-Salem-Mr. Moses Albert Walker, Jr., 90, died April 24, 2012 at home. The memorial service will be at 2 PM, Friday, April 27, at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church with Dr. Earl Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A private inurnment will take place at Maplewood Cemetery in Durham.
Moses was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico to the late Moses Albert and Grace Sleutz Walker. He graduated from UNC in 1942, served in the US Coast Guard from 1942-1946 attaining the rank of Lieutenant and was employed as a senior engineer with Hanes Hosiery for twenty five years. He earned several engineering patents. Mr. Walker was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school and was involved in The Seventy, and also the Y Men’s Club. He married Josephine Taylor Walker in York, SC on December 14, 1949 and spent sixty one wonderful years together prior to her death in April 2011. He was a great tennis player, loved to boat on the Outer Banks and enjoyed reading. After his retirement he and Josephine travelled the world. He leaves behind many life lessons demonstrated through his actions and words.
He is survived by his four sons, Michael T. (fiancée Susan Chilton) Walker of Winston-Salem; Stephen E. Walker of Chattanooga, TN; CAPT Raymond A. (Joan)Walker, USN (Ret) of Chesapeake, VA; and Moses Albert Walker IV of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Grace Walker, Eric Walker, Moses A. “Mo” Walker V, and Ryan Walker; great grandchildren, Caroline and Zoe Walker.
In addition to his wife and parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Marion Walker.
